Tracked my surging down to the speed sensor my truck runs perfect with the sensor unplugged but of course no cruise control and annoying lights I've replaced the wiring and senor already anyone have any ideas? 

2001 h.o. 6 speed fass 150 edge juice with attitude

might want to hook up the speed sensor and disconnect the charging wire on the alternator and do a short test and see if the problem goes away.

Now you got to ask why did the alternator fail?

 

Bad cables or weak batteries can too. So if you don't want to have never ending loop of changing alternator you might want to service this stuff. Grid heaters can cause the failure too by starting and idling excessively.
