So I'm woundering. I have a 98.5 dodge 2500. I bought an 01 motor and didnt know the wiring was that much difference. But it is. I can find much on this topic beside people saying buy the right motor for the truck. I'm going through wiring schematics and woundering can I just make an adapter for the 01 motor to plug in to the spot the 98 did.

I didnt see that. thanks but i dont know how this is going to work with my truck. i have engune harness and engine ecm. but it doesnt plug in the same spot. i have a harness from a 00 that the 01 engine plugs it to and goes to the pcm and tranny. but my truck harness feeds the cab and everything from fuse box and i dont want to have to rewire the whole dash and all.

I just did the same thing last year. Don't waste your time with changing all the electrical crap. It doesn't work.

Does the 01 have a crank sensor port behind the starter? If it does, swap your crank & the cam gear & your done. If it doesn't have a crank sensor port, move on to better things. It's just that easy.
