Now make sure your cover isn't warped and that there is no issues. Do NOT use silicone on the cover or gasket. I just slip the new gasket on making sure that its facing the right direction typically there is a tab showing direction. Then tighten the bolts as usual and reassmeble the VP44 into the gear case.

Well dorman makes napa and from everything I searched its on backorder till February 10th. I can get Felpro, any bad reports on felpro lately?

I would use FelPro or Mahle gaskets over any Cummins gasket any day. Just a heads up Cummins does not produce gaskets like the head gasket is produced in China by BLK.

The felpro also came with 1/4 inch thick steel washers with rubber backing along with the thin washers that go behind the bolts. I guess they are for extra cover support.

This gasket came with thick washers with rubber seals. I get their idea of pulling it down tighter but I think it will warp the tin cover. Its new to me thats why I asked. Im just going back with new gasket and the old bolts.
