Posted January 3, 201114 yr Hi everyone just looking for opinions on where to install the sending unit for my tranny temp gauge. I have heard a few different places and just wanted your two cents on where to put it to get the best reading.
January 4, 201114 yr Best place is in the hot tranny cooler line from the tranny. It is the hottest oil in the system as it leaves the torque converter. There are a few different options to mount a sender in the line from a replacement line that has a sender mounting spot built into it to splicing a t in the line or this contraption. http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ACUTEMP_ADAPTER Measuring the oil temp in the pan is the most inaccurate place as thats the coldest oil in the system as it has already returned from the cooler circuit. DTT transmission company sells replacement lines with a built in spot for the sending unit, not cheap but well worth the accuracy and peace of mind knowing it won't leak like splicing a T into the stock line.
January 4, 201114 yr Author would putting a t in the line with the sending unit in it block the flow in any way?
January 4, 201114 yr My pan came with a bung in it so thats where mine is.When i dragrace mine it gets real hot in the pan, hate to see how the line gets.It will stay around 150 most of the time. Now i here 30* over engine temp is when you should rethink the driving style:lmao2:
January 4, 201114 yr would putting a t in the line with the sending unit in it block the flow in any way? No because the oil would still flow straight through and the little nipple on the end of the sending unit isn't that long once its installed in the T it would be barely into the oil flow if at all.
February 15, 201114 yr Author finally got around to installing the gauge a few weeks ago. Everything went good with no leaks:thumb1: even installed a drain plug in the transmission pan so no more messy fluid changes.
February 15, 201114 yr If i had the extra cash i would like to run another gauge in the line just to see the difference.
February 28, 201114 yr I used the tee fitting from the link below and it works great. Here is a great resource for install videos and instructions. http://www.dieselmanor.com/installsheets.asp Fitting although you can buy this direct for a 1/3 of their asking price. http://www.dieselmanor.com/dm_products/FTG-MFD.asp pic of installed fitting in line http://www.dieselmanor.com/dm_products/DM-MFD58-installed.htm
February 28, 201114 yr Thanks for these links. Really great illustrations, helpful to plan a project before starting.
