Just a simple question about an air cleaner pre filter.Does anyone know what material the pre filter cover is made of ?Like the ones made by Outerwear and such ?I have tried looking, and nothing yet.

It's just a cover. It could be made of any porus fabric. It's just to stop the leaves & big stuff. The actual filter does the real work. I never bought one because it would just become so much mouse habitat like my under-hood insulation.

Russ is right... My reasons was with all the offroad use I rub holes in it. So the one that was given to me lasted about 6 months and in the trash it went with holes.

I understand by Outerwear it's to keep material of 5 micron and larger off the filter. I've heard of people using pantyhose, nylon sheet material and such. But I finally checked the material out and the material seems different, and then there's the water resistance.I was looking into finding the material, scotch guarding it and the wife says she can make it fit like a glove.Just having one hard time finding it.Putting a water proofing treatment aside, the people in a fabric shop said they haven't had material like it before.Thought I could get several made for the $40+ and shipping Outerwear wants.
