When I turn on my heater I think I can smell bit of antifreeze. I'm thinking I need to get into looking at replacing the core. Is there any way I can tell if the core is bad without taking out the dash and messing with the A.C. ?? Have any of you fellas replaced one and how much of a pain is it to do..Luke

I've not done it yet but I got a A/C Evap to do this winter/spring.As for the cause of failure if from the coolant becoming acidic/basic from lack of changes. (Every 30K miles it should be flush)

You have to unbolt the steering colum from the dash and let it lay back on the seat and then you unbolt the dash and let it lay back against the seat and then you can get to most everything pretty easy.
