Posted June 29, 201410 yr Hi folks... A mechanic not far from me has his own Chrysler DRB3 scanner that works according to him. Its for sale very cheap. Is this of any use to me with it being hooked into Chyslers own computer. Might not be a bad thing to have once in a while. Regards Chris
June 29, 201410 yr Owner DRBIII scanners are are typically $5,000 to $9,000 a scan tool. Are you sure its a true DRBIII tool? Not to mention the tool isn't going to be worth much without the subscription to Chrysler Database of Software. http://www.autoditto.com/drb-iii.html?gclid=CN-m2eCmn78CFQaBfgodqIIAAg http://www.ntxtools.com/network-tool-warehouse/OTC-CH6020A-AM.html
June 29, 201410 yr Drbs are expensive like mike said. If he has one it either doesnt work right or is hot. You will be able to read codes, read values, adjust some user options and thats about it. And you can do abs codes which is a plus. But most of the main stuff you can do with a $20 code reader for your phone. I have used the drb thousands of times and they are nice but you have to have the updates and ability to hook into chrysler to get their full potential. I personally use my cheap obd2 reader at home now.
June 29, 201410 yr Author Its the real deal. I remember using them when I apprenticed at the local Dodge dealer. I can get this 1 for cheap like I said. But seems like it wont do much more than my no name code reader. If it works is there any chance that it would screw up my trucks computer. I also thought they used it to set the high idle and 3 cyl idle. I already have this enabled in mine but could maybe help others with it. Thanks for now. Chris
June 29, 201410 yr Correct it can enable stuff like I said but it wont hurt anything. He must not know what he has
June 29, 201410 yr Author The guy wants 100 canadian dollars. The box it comes in is worth that. Chris
June 29, 201410 yr Owner Does he have a second one for that price? Holy Cow I would buy one at that price...
June 30, 201410 yr Author Well after you folks helped me decide it was usefull. I made out like a bandit and aquired it. Comes in a good sized case. I plan on leaving it with a buddy of mine thats a Chrysler tech and getting him to make sure it has all its updates. Regards Chris
June 30, 201410 yr Owner Dude what a sweet deal... Wow! There is plenty of diagnostic stuff you can do with those. I'm pretty sure you could make some good money doing diagnostic work in your area.
June 30, 201410 yr Wow it cast me $100 US just to have Chrysler plug that thing into a truck much less owner one...
June 30, 201410 yr Author It cost me 170 and change to have the high idle and 3cyl enabled on my truck. And I was happy to pay it. So I think I did okay on this deal. Michael if you were closer I would just put it in your toolbox and say thanks for letting me in the forum. I talked with my friend this morning and he is pretty happy I got it. He thinks he can get the updates and extra cards for it. Will work out good for both of us. Anyone within driving distance of me is welcome to use it. Just bring me a coffee and we are good. Regards Chris
June 30, 201410 yr with a name like "snowshoveler" im guessing your not to close to Gulfport, Ms.... lol
June 30, 201410 yr Author I should mention that my buddy showed up today and I sent the little package with him. He feels pretty good about getting the updates for it. Also said it was not used much because the numbers and letters are still new looking. I should have taken a pic of it. Oh well once he gets it tuned up we will both use it. Chris
