Posted February 8, 201015 yr Ok so I replaced My vss on my rear axle today now my abs/brake lights stay on! Even after resetting computer by unplugging batts for 30 mins. Any ideas? Thanks a ton.
February 8, 201015 yr Owner First thing is first... There is no way to reset the computers by disconnecting the batteries. Now that you have disconnected the batteriews you lost the APPS calibaration that the ONLY thing that resets with the batteries disconnected. Now for the ABS/BRAKE light problem. The is 3 speed sensors in the ABS system... Now if the rear sensor is damaged the speedometer doesn't work. If the speedometer is working then its one of the front 2 sensors mounted behind the rotors on the wheel bearings (4WD) To reset the ABS computer repair the problem and go drive the truck... If the problem is corrected the lights will go off with road speed.
February 23, 201015 yr I just replaced my ball joints on driver side only and now my abs/brake light is on. Did I damage the sensor during removal/re-installation? How do you verify the sensor is functioning?
February 23, 201015 yr Owner The only way to verify the sensor is functional is go to a Dealer that has the proper DRB III test equipment... OBD II won't tell you...
February 24, 201015 yr I replaced vss on the front end.It took almost 100 miles to reset it self. But i do that in a day so no biggie.Yes the dealer will tell you whats going on,if you dont have the tools.Mine did it for free. But i spend alot over the years with them.
February 24, 201015 yr Thats what i figured also. The guy that helped me said the light would go out by the end of his shop's driveway.(600ft) I was sick of looking at the light.Thats one thing about a smarty it cant read the abs system or clear them.It is out and still out.Maybe my truck is stubborn like the driver? :banghead:
February 24, 201015 yr Owner Don't try to disconnect the battery ot clear it won't work... Seriously if there is still a issues then the light will remain on. But if you corrected it will got out in just a few hundred feet of travel... Remember all the sensor must match speed for it to be happy. So if 1 sensor is lower or higher than the others then the ABS/BRAKE light is tripped.
