2010 Diesel
John, I think he has only changed oil once. The truck has only approx 8k plus miles on it. I will forward him your reply. He was concerned that it might be a major problem with fuel passing by the injectors. He is a worry wart anyway.ThanksMohok

My friend has a 2010 3500HD that is making oil. Is that a problem that anyone has addressed with Chrysler/Dodge and, if so, what was the results?Would appreciate any input/info that any one has with this issue.Mohok

upper control arm
Thanks. 2 wheel drive. My mech has ordered a rubber bushing kit and we will go from there.

upper control arm
I was told by my mechanic that put my tie rod ends on that I need to replace the right side upper control. Found that a replacement control arm is around $345.00 (ouch). He is going to try to replace the bushings and see if might solve the problem. Anyone care to share any information or personal experience in this area? I think he said that he had the front end up and had someone mash the brakes and he could see movement in the control arm. Also, when you are driving and apply the brakes you can hear a noise and feel a bit of a jerk in the front end.

Tie Rod Ends
First, thanks to all the responders. Good info. I have rotated three of the new tires to the left front position to rule out having a faulty tire. All three tires have the same left pull. The tires were all made in the same run on 1112, i.e., last week of March this year. The tires are 235 85 16's Cooper Discovery tires made in the USA, so hopefully the tires are not the problem.

Tie Rod Ends
Thanks Mike. I have a guy that will put them on and I will take it to an alignment after that and have them to check it out. Again, is there supposed to be any play? You can put your hand around each shaft and by twisting your wrist up and down there is 1/8th to 1/4 play in them. Being a non motor head, I don't know.

Tie Rod Ends
Put on new tires and noticed a pronounced pull to the left. Checked the tie rod ends and found both sides with some play in each side. Is there supposed to be any play in them? Am approaching 100k miles so I guess I need to get new tie rod ends??? Just came off a 1200 mile trip and am not sure if I noticed the pull to the left with the old tires or not, if so, it was not as pronounced. I had the new tires on the left side switched to rule out a faulty tire. It still had the strong left pull.

A/C Problem
Can someone help me identify the part I need to replace. It is the connection on the line that runs from the lower left front side of the engine to the connection on the upper part of the outside firewall located about middle way of the firewall. ~~

A/C Problem
Thanks. I'm traveling and have little or no internet. I found the leak in a connection and should be able to replace the part myself. I used some electrical tape on it and it has worked since. Was relieved to find out it should be a low cost fix as I'm on the road and have experienced some triple digit temps the past few weeks. I will be in Iowa for the next six weeks or so.

A/C Problem
My A/C, when left on after I cut the the truck off and restart it, sometimes resumes in the defrost mode and then after moving the truck, it will return to the normal mode for Max Air. It will not return to the Max Air mode by just rotating the dial. Please advise.

Code 0P500
Hag, yes I did. Hopefully is was a "ghost" as it is not showing up since my visit to Auto Zone (code remove by Auto Zone) early this AM. Will check it ever morning for a few days. I sent you a private msg after you responded to my first post and I also sent one to Michael this AM. However, my PC must have a problem. There is no copy in my Sent file. Thanks for your responses. I'm a bit mechanically challenged but I do have a basic under standing of the operational aspects of my truck. I have expanded my knowledge considerably by monitoring this Forum. Michael is to be commended for his efforts to educate the masses via this Forum. Howard King Manning SC

Code 0P500
Posted a couple days ago reference subject code. Did the key trick again this AM and the code still shows. However, my Scan Gauge and 2 Hand Held gauges did not pick it up. I'm the original owner (90k miles on truck) and have not any problems with codes before Had the not scanned for code in about three years. Had a transmission fluid change last week which I think included a T/C flush also. I have noticed my tranny temp in the 190 to 200 range since which is a bit higher than it was running before. If I'm not wrong it was running well below 170 towing. Have a 3k mile r/t set up to begin Monday so If I need to get something done any advice will be greatly appreciated. I going to get another scan from Auto Zone now. Panic time????!!! - - - Updated - - - Just went to Auto Zone and again no code showed up. The guy did a clear on the computer. Did a road test and the Cruise Control works. I guess I will just quit worrying about it and keep a close eye on my tranny temp. MOHOK

Tires
Just got my tires. Month of Manufacture 1712 which means they were made during the 1st week of May in the USA. I strongly recommend Pete's Tire Barn for on line orders. I worked with a guy named Ray and he looked after me concerning my request for New Tires not 2 year old tires that had been in inventory. I can be used as a reference.

Code P0500
Just went to Auto Zone for a scan and no codes detected. As a double check I stopped by a friends place and had it read again, no codes. On the way home I remembered that my Scan Gauge would detect codes also. Duh!!! Guess I over reacted. Hopefully this is a non issue at this time.

Code P0500
Just did the key trick and found a P0500. I find on the Forum that it has to do with the Speed Sensor Control. Planning on leaving on a 2.5 month trip next Monday and was wondering what action to take, if any, before I leave. Also, being a non motor head old fart, I don't know how to clear the code. If it just affects the speed, I have a GPS and a Scan Gauge on board. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

RV Tires
Mike, I just saw this post on your truck tires and see that you are running ST L/R G tires vice LT L/R E on your truck. Why the ST and not LT? Isn't the LT built to a higher safety standard? Also, why L/R G vice L/R E? Thanks Mohok

Tranny Temp Sending unit location
Bill, this is exactly the type info I was looking for when I did my original post. I expected a lot of replies to my post. I'm a non Motor Head but I do try to learn as much as possible as I love my truck. This forum has been a steady source of great information and my hat is off to MOPAR Man for making it happen. "Git - er - Done". I can't afford a new truck and not sure I would want anything after 2010.

Tranny Temp Sending unit location
After much research on subject, I have concluded that it is a matter of opinion as to the best place to locate the sending unit sensor. What I feel I gained from my research is that if your gauge is reading above 240 degrees, pull over and put the tranny in neutral and fast idle (1200 rpm) for 2 to 3 minutes to cool the fluid.

Tranny Temp Sending unit location
My sending unit is located on the upper right (top) side of the tranny above the pan. It is a Banks gauge and the instructions say the best place would be in the pan where the temp is the highest and recommends that location. The instructions also provide an alternate location for the 47RE tranny. The instructions say to locate the rear servo test port on the right rear side of the tranny and install the 1/8" NPT temp sending unit there. Mine is in neither of those locations. I was told by tranny specialist the my location was giving me a higher reading and should be relocated to the side to read the temp of the return side. He said to deduct 15 to 20 degrees from my reading. He also said the tranny temp should read lower than the engine. Comments, clarification, and direction, please.

Tires
Update. I ordered a set of 4 to be delivered to my door. After extensive research, I think $619.00 for these tires is about the best I could do. Thanks for the comments.

Tires
I'm looking at a set of 4 Cooper Discoverer H/T 235/85/R16's Load Range E for my truck. Have found a set on line for $605.00 with a 60k warranty. Was wondering if anyone has any comments on Cooper Tires, good or bad. I'm presently running a set of Yoko Geolanders G053 and it looks like I'm not going to but about 32k miles on them.

Thermostats
What is the stock thermostat temp and what is recommended? Seems I saw something on this and the guys have been changing them out.

Old Fashion Moth Balls in Diesel Full
I know that a sucker is born every minute. Ran into a old gent today while filling up. He was driving a F350 and told me he had been putting 1 Old Fashion Moth Ball per 3 gal of fuel since he had 8k miles on his truck. The truck now has 110k miles on it with no problems. Claimed he increased his mpg by 2-3 mpg's. I did some research online and found more negative than positive comments. I did find a formula of 1 ball per 4 gals. Is anyone doing this with a Dodge Diesel ???
