2nd Gen Auto Transmissions
Was surfing the site yesterday and ran across a comment stating that it is not recommended to flush out the troque convertor when changing fluid? Why would that be a problem?

The fold out mirrow on the passenger side keeps moving around while I'm driving. Can anyone tell me how to adjust the mirrow?

Fleetguard Oil Filters
I have found the LF16035 @ truckhelp.com for $9.10 each plus shipping. Does anyone know where to get them cheaper? I have found them on line from $9.10 to $15.00 plus. I can get a MOPAR filter for $13.49 out the door at a local parts store. What is the conventional wisdom on using /not using the MOPAR filter?

Rear Seal
I see you are running 235/85R/16's the same as I. I calculate (stubby pencil) each fill up when towing. I use a 1.04 factor to compensate for the 235 vice the 245 recommended by Dodge. Does my 1.04 factor sound correct to figure my mileage?

Rear Seal
Found out it was the left rear wheel cylinder and not the seal. Change out both rear wheel cylinders. Thanks to all for the replies. Mohok

Rear Seal
Just checked my brake shoes and notice grease inside the hub and drum assembly on the left rear. No dust at all in the assembly. The right rear side was full of dust. I suspect it to be the oil seal. Only have 90k miles, is this a common problem at this mileage? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Also, is it very difficult to change the seal? I have a shade tree Mechanic and a repair manual to go by. Thanks.Mohok

Bio Diesel Fuel 2010 Ram 3500
Owners Manual for 2010 3500 6.7 states "Don't use Diesel Fuel with more than 5% Bio. Wal-Mart is selling diesel fuel (sticker on the pump) saying it may contain 5% to 20% Bio. Is it OK to use the Wal-Mart diesel in 2010 6.7? The reason I used this section of the forum, the 6.7 section doesn't seem to get much response. Mohok

Oil Change for 2010
Need info on changing oil in a 2010 6.7. I.e., where is the filter located, any special tools required, and is it messy?Mohok

2 cycle oil
128 = 1 gallon fuel. 1= 1 oz 2 cyc oil. That's same as you are doing. Mohok

2 cycle oil
Reference my post of 1/11/12 concerning subject oil. My confusion factor came from the following study I found on the Dodge Diesel Forum titled,"Diesel Fuel Lubricity Additives Study Result". There was nothing in the results to suggest that we should not use 2 cyc oil in our 2nd generation trucks. There was a reference that it might be dangerous to run it in 2007 and above. Hope I didn't create any confusion for anyone. I am very satisfied with using 2 cyc oil for the past 6 months without any problems. The only draw back is it costs 10 cents more per gallon to operate my truck. Mohok (Non-Motor Head Old Fart)

2 cycle oil
Have been running 2 cyc oil for 6 months. 128:1 ratio. Was wondering if anyone has had any problems that can be related to the use of the 2 cyc oil? Was over on the Dodge Diesel Forum and found some info that was a bit confusing to me. Plan to keep using it and hope for the best.

valve adjustment
dripley, I thought about checking my owners manual shortly after replying to your post. My manual has an A and B maintenance schedule. B is for frequent towing, dusty conditions, extensive idling, more than 50% high speed driving and short distances less than 5 miles. I used the B schedule because I primarily tow with my truck. The interval for adjusting the valve lash clearance is 135k miles and the A schedule interval is 150k. So I'm OK for 50k more miles. Mohok

valve adjustment
From a non-motor head at 90k miles. If all is well, i.e., uses 1 qt or less oil between changes with a 5k change interval, no loss of power or apparent performance problems, why adjust the valves? What is the adjustment interval in terms of miles?ThanksMohok

Hood Insulation
I just removed it yesterday and installed my BHAF. Oh Happy Days.Mohok

BHAF installation pics
Is it really necessary to strap down the BHAF? I will be receiving mine tomorrow and was wondering. As big as they are, it looks like they can't move around very much. I ordered my Donaldson off Ebay shipped to my front door for $52. and some change. I made an offer and they took it. The shipping was $17.99.Mohok

Hood Insulation
My hood insulation is sagging badly especially in the area where my BHAF is going to be. Anyone got any ideas on how best to re-attach it? I was thinking maybe some type of glue, however, the heat might cause glue to melt. Any info will be appreciated.MOHOK

I got the Donaldson B105006 off E-Bay for $52.25 shipped to my door. When I removed the filter box the I found that the 3 retaining bolts are built in to the fender. What do you do in order to mount the BHAF? Do you grind them off level with the top of the fender, or leave then as they are? MOHOK

Bhaf
Thanks. I just made an offer $52.25 for the Donaldson to include shipping on E-bay so I guess I will go with that. MOHOK

What is the verdict on using a Fram BHAF? I have used Fram oil filters on my truck for 85k miles without any problems. I used Fram Air Filters on my truck before I got the S&B Cold Air Intake. I think the S&B upgrade was a waste of money. Additionally, I have run Fram filters in most of the vehicles I have owned over the past 50 years. Mohok

Towing & 2 cyc oil
Thanks for the info. Mike, a couple of questions: At 55 mph what was your RPM? Auto 4 speed or Std 6 speed tranny? My 4 speed auto with OD locked out is 2000 RPM @ 52 MPH. With my OD locked out, I just can't tow 400 miles @ 2000 RPM @ 52 MPH. I do understand that the Cummins 5.9 curve for max performance and MPG is around 2000 RPM. I did notice on my return trip that when I kicked out of OD and dropped my speed to 52 MPH and kicked the RPMs to 2000 my EGT dropped from around 11 to 7 to 8 although my engine sounded like it was racing. I understand that the lower the EGT the better the MPG. I will say again that I have learned a lot from this site and thank you for your efforts. Mohok

Towing & 2 cyc oil
I changed my fuel filter to Baldwin and started using 2 cyc oil on my return trip to SC from Santa Fe, TX via Oskaloosa, IA on 30 Jul.I averaged 11.5 MPH towing (9000 lbs) 2315 miles under various road conditions. Mostly rolling hills and some higher elevations in KY, TN, NC & SC. I didn't baby the truck, i.e., 63 to 65 and on a few legs up to 70MPH. One thing I did differently was in hilly areas whenmy speed dropped to around 60 MPH I kicked out of OD and dropped my speed to 52 MPH to maintain 2000 RPM. I think that helped my MPGs a bit. I am very happy with my trucks performance. I use the stubby pencil method to figure my gas mileage (up to the neck) and use a factor of 1.04 to compensate for my larger tire size.I have a 1000 mile R/T to Fla coming up in late Oct and it is mostly all flat roads. Am anxious to see if I can do better than my 11.5 MPGs on that trip. I have a S&B Cool Air Intake and am now leaning toward a BHAF.What is the bottom line on a heat shield for the BHAF? Yes/No??? Towing in OD or Drive for my 5th wheel
Funny I should see this post as I was going to post the basically the same question. Quote from 2001 Owners Manual, "When to lock out over drive". "When driving in hilly areas, towing a trailer, carrying a heavy load, or whenever frequent transmission shifting occurs, press the O/D OFF button". I have towed approx 50k miles with my 2001 4 Speed Automatic at or near CGVW maybe a bit over sometimes with the O/D ON. I have 83k miles on the truck at this time. I say this with fingers crossed, I have not had any problems with my transmission at this point. What prompted me to consider doing a post on this question is that I talked with another 2nd Gen 1999 4 Speed owner today that was towing in O/D and had transmission problems around the 75k miles mark. He now tows with the O/D OFF and runs around 2k RPM. He stated that he gets around 10 - 12 MPG towing his 5th wheel with the O/D locked out. When I kick out the O/D my RPMs go from 1.6k to around 2k and it sounds like my engine is racing. I get 10 to 11.5 towing at 65MPHI see a lot of Motor Head talk on this forum and have extended my knowledge considerably concerning various aspects of RAM Truck maintenance and upkeep for which I am thankful. Will be interesting to gets some replies on what everyone else is doing out there with their 2nd Gen 4 Speed Autos while towing. MOHOK

Fuel Filter
Thanks to all for your input. I just bit the bullet and ordered a six pack of Baldwin with expedited shipping off Ebay for $74.45. I have purchased my 2 cyc oil from Wal-Mart and will start using it (128./1) upon changing to the Baldwin filter. Am anxious to see if I can tell any difference in my MPG on my way back to South Carolina after the 4th of July.mohok
