No high pressure at vp when cold unless hotwired
Glad i have an edge that will get wire tapped. Shes pretty dead past 3rd gear with no chip. Less power than stock under 2000 rpm no smoke.hooked edge back in the obd port. Havent tapped pump yet going to get a cover.didnt really gain any power 7psi boost was all i was seeing. Played with settings and was defaulted to 98-00 changed it to 2002 and picked up some power.Saw 725 egt and 14psi boost. Sounds like a boost leak on intake side of engine.clamps appear all tight. Id say with the 60hp from the juice since its not tapped its probably 20-30hp over the stock 245hp. If i was leaving the truck stock id be disappointed in the so pump on the ho engine.

No high pressure at vp when cold unless hotwired
Just an update incase someone searches this in the future. Replaced the VP with a used SO reman pump and she sat for 2 days outside got down to -25C on saturday. Was -10C this am and fired up 1/4 turn. I guess was a rare case of a failed VP without any codes. Thanks all for the support.

No high pressure at vp when cold unless hotwired
Only reason i didnt go with a new Vp is im not 100% convinced its the pump. Got this SO pump with receipt for $400 and no core. Couldnt locate another ECM to test with either. Scrap yards wanted $500 for a ecm and Im leary about sending mine out to be rebuilt as there is no delayed to start light or any other funky issues and above all no codes at all. Strong fuel with no air at the vp inlet but no pressure out of the Vp. Hotwiring it only works in a heated shop not outside. The mecanic was convinced its the VP. Will see as the SO pump is going on today.

Stopped at the shop last night after work and the old pump was off. I noticed the wire tap connection looked pretty crusty on the old remanned pump hmmm. See what happens i got a good deal on a 1 yr old reman SO pump with receipt.

Could really use some help - Engine knock
Real crappy luck damn. He tested the injector and it was ok right? Make you wonder how it could just stick either open or closed then fine again. Like you said so odd it happened at same time that the batteries died. Why is it always usually always #6 or #1 ? If it were me id buy a used engine that you can hear run check for blow by and off to races.

Would You Invest in My Truck or A Newer Truck
Its Canada everything is double the price. The fuse box and headlight relay crapped the bed on my 04.5 those 2 parts alone were $1200 GARAGE price. Design flaw prone to corrode from the underside is what the dealer said. stock Injectors $498 each http://www.dirtydieselcustom.ca/index.php/dodge/5-9l-2004-5-2007-5/fuel-systems/fuel-injectors/dodge-common-rail-stock-hp-injectors.html Bosch cp3 $1280 https://www.bcdiesel.ca/en/bd-cp3-common-rail-fuel-pump-5-3-4 $4200+15% tax just for the pump and injectors. Vp pump and injectors are 1/2 that cost. Im not crappying on 3rd gens they all have their weak points. But i have owned both and prefer the older trucks. My buddy was towing his 5th wheel on his 03 when out of nowhere #6 injector stuck open smoke show he pulled over and shut it down. Too late burned up #6 piston.

Reading it sounds odd. "damaged or contaminated" They are all damaged that is why you would be replacing it lol I will call in before if i bite the bullet on a new pump.

Golden info guys much appreciated. This part on the DAP disclaimer has me wondering Core: Core deposit of $400 required unless core sent in advance. If a rebuildable core (ie. not seized, damaged, contaminated, disassembled) is not received in 30 days from date of shipment a reduced core credit of $200 applies for late cores. International orders have 45 days. IF YOU PURCHASE AN HO 245HP PUMP, YOU MUST RETURN AN HO 245HP PUMP. ANYTHING OTHER THAN AN HO 245HP PUMP RETURNED WILL RESULT IN 1/2 CREDIT. So if it was crap fuel that ruined the pump on the truck they deem the core not rebuild able ? Id probably not wire tap until the warranty is up.

Unfortunately im on the other side of the border. Best price on a bosch VP up here in canada is almost $2000 tax in. So DAP and Vulcan are the 2 recommended vp vendors ? I was looking at bluechip and Vp44pumps.com as both had 2 year warranties. Bluechip was only place that warrantys a wire tap via the stealth cover from what i found. Im sceptic to buy a new VP up here as i dont know if the whole pump is rebuilt or just the defective part and rebaged. And yes the electric stuff after the p pump swap is whats making me hesitent. I found a running 12v for $900. thought all i needed was the special fuel lines and a boost elbow. But i like the power with the juice the truck has and virtually no smoke even on level 5 tromping on it. Thinking about it now maybe the vp was failing. Shouldnt it pump a lil smoke on a hard stomp on level 5 ? On the highway tromp it and im not sure you could even call it a haze from the exhaust. like slight tinge of black for 1/2 second.

Thanks for the input guys. I had planned on snagging the vp and selling off the rest.the no run for 2 years kinda scared me. Id shoot myself if i put a 1800$ pump on and thats not it lol Be almost the price of a ppump conversion.

Came across a 99 engine complete with wiring computers turbo 250k miles $800 sent me a vid of it running and ran strong.been out for 2 years. Vp with no fuel in it for that long problamatic?

No high pressure at vp when cold unless hotwired
Same fuel in the tank as sunday when i dropped it off. Was -10 sunday and wasn't gelled. today its maybe -5 out today. All kinds fuel at the IP inlet and no air. I just wish there was a code.

No high pressure at vp when cold unless hotwired
Outside in the cold the pump wont start the truck hotwired. Kid ran who knows what for fuel had a tank in the box. I guess this means the pump is no good.

Thanks for the diagrams. The ground over on the turbo side thats the PCM ground right ? I see there is a fuel pump relay where abouts is this loacted ? Im no electrical guru so please bear with me lol. I assume the ecm triggers the relay which is supposed to send power to pin 7 ?

Thanks for all the replies. I have the little controller that locks and unlocks doors horn blows when locking. Is that the security system ?

No high pressure at vp when cold unless hotwired
Unfortunately it doesn't look like its the juice as it sat outside in cold all day yesterday and same no start with edge unplugged from the obd2.

No high pressure at vp when cold unless hotwired
Ok thats what i thought. Does anyone find it odd that there are no codes on the scanner ? There seems to be a list of like 100 trouble codes on these trucks and it doesnt trip a single one lol. At this point I wish it would just trip a ecm or vp code id change the part and be done with it. I have had over 30 vehicules in past 20 years and never got a really good hosing untill now. Be the last purchase sight unseen. Played some camera angle tricks and lied about a lot of things on this one.

No high pressure at vp when cold unless hotwired
You had said pcm. Is it not the engine control module that runs the vp?
-
No high pressure at vp when cold unless hotwired
So the frozen ecm shouldnt start the engine if its culprit correct?

Kool thanks for the information. I will pass it on.

No high pressure at vp when cold unless hotwired
The edge bein the problem too good to be true.after sitting out in the cold all day no start. So somehow the heat has an effect to what not sure. Saga continues.

Muffler options.
I must be lucky my qcsb has an unknown 4 inch turbo back no muffler with 6 inch tip. Absolutely no drone its quieter in the cab than my last rig which was a 04.5 with 5 inch magnaflow with a muffler and resonator. I had a 12v that was hacked off before the muffler and 4 inch straight pipe installed. That was crackly loud and the drone was bad in the cab.

Would You Invest in My Truck or A Newer Truck
I had two 12v trucks two 24vs Bought an 04.5 HO 3500 4x4 4 door short bed 6 speed. Liked the added power the CR had to offer over my stock 24s i had. Liked the back doors. BUT didnt like anything else on it. There is even more electronic gizmos on the common rail. Everything you look at is $1000 for parts then the injectors$$$$$$ I was always afraid an injector would stick open and fry a cylinder. Longer i had it the more i relized i prefered the engine/body/interior of the 2nd gen. Sold my 04.5 and bought the truck i always wanted a 2002 QCSB sport full load leather/woodgrain 4x4 6 speed. With a lift pump and edge juice it pulls harder than the 04.5 i sold. Just enough for me. The common rail engine is too quiet for me lol silly i know, but boy do those 24vs sound good. My buddy just sold his 04 6 speed dually 4x4 and bought a 02 sport black dually 4x4 auto hes going to change to stick.

Oh i will want the extra power lol I had a stock 01 HO and a stock 99 auto before. I sold an 04.5 HO to get back into the 24v as of all the dodge diesels i had i prefered the 2nd gen QCSB. Sold the 01.5 as it wasn't a sport. Looked for one didnt find it so i bought a 04.5 I can say after driving this 02 wow did i miss the 2nd gen. Level 3 down low it pulls as hard or harder than the stock 04.5 HO. All i want is similar power and with just the juice on the truck im content. What i should have said is it worth repairing the juice or should i buy a new one, or a comp box, or ? I like the idea of the built in gauges to monitor fuel pressure egt and boost.

Im kinda iffy on removing the wire tapped into the vp :S I will drive it for a couple days and see what happens then plug the edge back in and see what happens. Is it worth sending it back to edge to get fixed ? i will test for AC noise noticed its a new alternator on it but still could be defective.
