  1. Thanks for that information. I have a draw straw but I haven't installed it. I'm mechanically inclined but I HATE mechanic work. I just don't have the patience for it. I'm off work for the next couple of weeks so I might try to tackle the draw straw project. I guess I never did it because the instructions that come with it are pretty vague and I've been afraid to tackle it myself. I have replaced all the banjos with pushlock fittings. I took the fuel lines off of the raptor to replace the quick connect fittings and I don't recall if it had a screen or not. I'll check that out too. I would love it if I didn't have to replace the vp, but I will probably replace the raptor anyway just because I don't really like it, haven't from the start.
  2. Also, the raptor is not pushing pressure like it used to be. I can adjust it to where it will be pushing 19psi at idle and it will drop to around 12-13 just driving normal. Would replacing the supply pump maybe rectify this situation or is it too little too late?
  3. Dead pedal and it's throwing 0216 and 1693 codes. It's not the same as the dead pedal I had before tho. The throttle isn't totally unresponsive, but the truck won't really accelerate either. If I push the clutch in and rev the motor high then release the clutch it will drive normal for a few minutes. At first I thought it may be APPS, which I haven't reset yet, but when I did the key trick it threw those codes and no other codes at all. I had to do Mopar Man's relay for the raptor lift pump about 6 months after I had it put on because it was hard starting after the truck warmed up. Now the truck is sometimes hard starting even with the relay in line along with the unresponsive throttle. I think I have been running on a dying pump for the last 18 months. It's just getting to where it's almost totally dead now. Also, I have gone from getting 18-19 mpg to getting 12-15mpg. The VP and the raptor are just a little over two years old.
  4. I've been away for a long while but I've been busy. It's that time again..... Time for another VP44 and lift pump. I've been looking around and CPP seems to be where you get the most bang for your buck. This is what I was considering. Would anybody advise different??? I don't want to go with thoroughbred diesel again and I can't afford a blue chip pump. My main concern is the fass lift pump since their VPs have all new electronics. Are they legit? Anybody have any experiences (good or bad) with CPP??? Thanks in advance. http://www.cumminsperformanceparts.com/vp44fasscombo.html
  5. Thanks for the help men.
  6. All right men, I need some help here. I posted a while back about my clutch slipping and now I finally have a little money to replace it. That being said, I still don't have a huge budget to do this with. I'm trying to find a good reliable clutch that won't break the bank. I'm familiar with south bend and Valair but those are out of my league as far as affordability. If anyone can give me any info on Luk, AMS performance, Exedy, etc. that would be great. I have tried to research these brands but can't really find many reviews on any of them. Also, I don't do any really heavy towing (probably 6 or 7k occasionally). Thanks in advance for the help.
  7. So here I am again.... When I'm driving my 5 speed, usually in 5th and highway speeds, I put the pedal down and the rpm's go up but the truck doesn't accelerate. It doesn't do it all the time and it does it mostly in 5th gear. I know this is probably an easy diagnosis but I'm no mechanic so let's here some ideas!!!Thanks in advance!!!
  8. Ok, so I unhooked the lp this morning and the truck fired right up at operating temp. That being said, please forgive my ignorance when it comes to the mod you're talking about. Is there a write up with more detail about this mod??? And also, is a torn diaphram in the vp a big deal??? Is it something I need to have repaired or will the mod do the trick??? Thanks a lot for all the info and for helping a shadetree "mechanic" like myself!!! I went out and looked under the hood and it appears that my truck already has this setup on it. There is a relay mounted to the firewall and it has the pos and neg wires, yellow wire, running to the lp, and brown wire running from the starter to the relay. Is this standard with the aftermarket lift pumps? Do I need to add another relay???
  9. All right, I don't mean to kick a dead horse but my rig is at it again. I got the fuel pressure guage installed and I'm running 19 psi at idle, 17 cruising, 14 WOT. I changed all the quick connects on the raptor to pushlock. I was going to take raptor apart and inspect wiring because the pump wasn't always kicking on when it shoud ie: bumping the starter. When I got the wire harness apart it was full of water so i thought this may be the problem. I dried it out really well, put some electrical lube on it, covered it with MSHA tape just to help keep water out, then repositioned it so water wouldn't stand in it just in case. I cranked the truck, let it warm up to operating temp, then shut it off and she fired right back up so I thought the problem was fixed. Then I took her for a drive, about 20 minutes, brought it back home, shut it off and then it took probly about 10 turns for her to start back up. I have a draw straw that I haven't installed yet but I'm sure that won't help anyway. When I first turn the key on the fuel pressure comes right up to around 20 psi, but it falls right back off as soon as the pump kicks off. Is that normal??? When I start cranking, the fuel pressure comes right back to 20 then when it fires, it idles at 19. Could this be an injector issue??? Some kind of sensor??? Could it be something to do with the stock draw straw??? I don't have any visible leaks anywhere and I just don't know what it could be???It has codes with the key trick that are unrelated P1693(been there since I've had the truck), P0522( been there since I've had the truck) , and P0234( This is a new one, but I may have been a little throttle happy when driving the other day:ashamed:). I'm not sure where to go from here so any help will be greatly appreciated!!!
  10. Just curious as to whether anyone has a set of stock hub caps they would be willing to let go cheap????? Or does anyone know where I could find a decent deal on a set? I've looked all over ebay and all I have found is mostly used and abused ones in poor condition...I would like to find a set of chrome ones because I want to do a black powder coat on the wheels and just a little chrome would offset it nicely but any will do! I just hate the look of the rusty hubs on my truck:sick:. Thanks in advance!
  11. I used to run the pumps too!!! And I'll have to admit, I miss it more often than I ever thought I would... My primary truck was an N2 pumper though. Who did you work for??? Sorry to Hi-jack the thread!!!!
  12. All right, I got the big line kit and the fuel pressure guage installed. I'm showing 15 psi at idle, 13-14 at cruising speed, and 11 at WOT. I've read on here that you can adjust the fuel flow on the raptor??? Any tips??? I tried to turn the screw on the side of it with a screwdriver but it wouldn't budge. Do you have to loosen the nut up around it before adjusting the screw??
  13. Ok, so my guage came in and I went ahead and ordered the big line kit from Vulcan. I have the wires/plumbing set up so all I have left to do is hook everything up. The only question I have is what needs thread sealant and what doesn't? The indirections that came with the big line kit were kind of unclear about this. And will teflon tape suffice or will I have to get some other type of sealant???
  14. The kit came with the new plastic ears when I put the new actuator on. I have vacuum at the CAD and it SHOULD mean the actuator is sliding when I move the shifter because the 4x4 light comes on, right?
  15. One last question!!! Will I have to re-prime everything if I have to take the line loose between the filter and the vp??? I've never messed around with the fuel lines before so I'm trying to get all the info I can before I go to taking things apart!
  16. Thanks for the info! This may be a stupid question, but what is NPT??? I know it's probably obvious but it's not ringing any bells???
  17. Thanks Mike, the guage is on it's way. Do you have a parts list for what you had in the pics??? Or do you have an article about it??? I'm not familiar enough with the fuel system to just look at these pics and know exactly what's there. I know I had see somewhere that you use 1/8 air brake line What are the rest of those fittings exactly? Thanks for the tips because I wasn't looking forward to paying $100+ for a guage:thumbup2:
  18. If I remember correctly I used the original fork and just replaced the actuator. I know it's not working because I almost got stock in my yard yesterday after replacing the switch.
  19. Hey, sorry I'm just replying to this as I forgot I even posted it. I don't have a fuel pressure guage installed yet as I am always on a budget with this thing, but now I see the desperate need of having one. What kind would you recommend? I need something trustworthy, but economical at the same time. Thanks!P.S. Truck hasn't acted up since I did this post! Maybe that's why I forgot about it:ashamed:
  20. I am having the same problem with my truck. I replaced the CAD last year to no avail and I just replaced the switch on the transfer case today as I finally discovered the prongs on the old one were MIA. I still have no 4wd but the light comes on when I select 4H or 4L on the shifter so that should mean I have vacuum there right??? Is it possible that I have the shifter fork in backwards causing this to happen??? I hope it's nothing more serious than that!!!
  21. I got them from www.rockauto.com and yes they came with brackets! And they are power and heatet mirrors!!!
  22. I float mine every now and again just to take me back to the good ole days of driving the oilfield trucks. But if and when you miss one.....
  23. Hey fellas,I'm new in town here but I love this forum so far!!! I'm having issues with my 01 5 speed starting after it has ran for a while. The vp is only about 5 months old and the raptor 100 and the power puck went on when the vp did. It always starts perfect cold and it runs great all the time. I hasn't not started yet but it will turn over several times before it starts after it's warm. I had some water in the fuel issues a few days ago and I thought this may have caused it. I drained the separator and it straightened up for a couple of days and now it's back to the same old trick. I plan on checking the water separator again but the weather has been nasty here for a couple of days. It also has a brand new fuel filter on it. I'm praying this vp is not failing because I can't afford another one nor do I want to buy another one right now!!! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!
  24. Well I just checked discountautomirrors and they have the same mirrors for about $20 cheaper! I wish I would've known about them a week ago:banghead:
