vp44 and hy35 questions
I used the key from the old pump. The be one was 045 and the old one was 046. Local shop guy said it should be fine as long as I took my time and made sure to get it in right. She runs like a dream now! Thanks guys.

THANK YOU!
Just wanted to take a minute to say thank you to everybody in this forum for all the help you give me and each other. This place really is like no other when it comes to getting help or advice with Cummins issues. I don't post on here much because I don't know enough to help with most of these issues but I do read A LOT and there is always a wealth of knowledge and ALWAYS someone willing to help. This forum has taken me from doing oil changes and an occasional brake job to finishing my first VP install about an hour ago. Mike I especially want to thank you for creating this place and deciding to keep it going. I'm not in a place where I can donate monthly right now but I will put a check in the mail soon for a one time donation. It won't be enough to repay you for all the help you've given me but it's what I can afford for now. Again, thank you all for everything.

Do what about making the key way deeper in the pump I just bought???

vp44 and hy35 questions
I'm glad you posted this. I don't mean to high hack your thread but I just bought a used pump for $300+some spare parts I wasn't using. I was attempting my first VP swap today and I got the my VP out but when I went to put the new one in I noticed the key ways are different depths. The key doesn't even come close to going all the way in the key way. Would it be a huge no no to have someone cut the key way deeper? I'm afraid that even with a different key the key way isn't deep enough. I'm in a hard spot because the truck is my dd and I have to get it running tomorrow because I have to go back to work Friday.

Thoughts on Edge EZ vs Superchips Flashpaq vs Other Econo Tuners
Not meaning to hi-jack this thread but I know of a guy who has a quad adrenaline for sale. Would it be a rip at $250 used??? I have a power puck on my truck now and I'm pretty happy with it but I was just curious about trying something different. Not really something I need but......

Fuel Pressure spread
I had a raptor and had big pressure drops from day 1 and it slowly worsened over time. I thought it was the stock pick-up in the tank so I did the 1/2" draw straw and 1/2" lines from tank to vp and the raptor still wouldn't keep up. I adjusted it several times before finally giving up on it(I didn't even keep it for a backup). I ended up buying the FASS titanium 95gph pump and it sits a 16 psi idle or WOT. The raptor is certainly enticing because of the money you save up front but they are just junk altogether IMO. I am totally please with the FASS so far. Also I put an inline screw on Donaldson filter in front of the FASS and it's still holding 16psi no matter what. It's a better pump 10 to 1 over the Raptor.

'99 long cranking before it fires, issue
Hey Mopar1973Man, could this not be a cracked diaphragm on the vp??? I had the same issue and did the relay you suggested and it fixed it. Of course, it's only a temporary fix for a failing vp but nonetheless I've been running mine for almost 2 years with the relay. Granted the pump is on it's last leg now and I'm about to replace it but it saved me some money in the long run. I tried to find the write up on the wiring diagram but was unsuccessful. Try this GSP7 and you will find out if it's your vp or not and maybe get a little more out of it before replacing it.

You mean to take it off? Or to loosen the nut on the bottom?

Emergency help
I ran my truck out of fuel yesterday on my way to work. I know how stupid this is but I thought I had enough to make it and I didn't have time to stop. I've tried since yesterday evening to get this thing started back but it just won't do it. I can get fuel to the VP and prime the FASS but as soon as I tighten the nut back up on the VP and try to start the truck, I lose prime with the FASS. Also, I am getting fuel at the injectors but still no fire because I lose prime to fast. I even tried leaving the but on the VP loose while I cranked and still no fire. I have been having problems that I thought might been VP related but want sure. Could it be that the VP is done for??? Please help!!!

need help Fass
I don't have an extra one at the moment. In still going to take the line of the back of the gauge and see if there's air in it. Just didn't have time to do it today.

So do you think the gauge itself is toast?

Everything works fine as far as wait to start and everything else. I don't have a volt meter being that I'm just a shade tree mechanic, haha. I can do most stuff they is just mechanical and straight forward but all the really technical stuff hems me up. As far as hard starting goes I had the relay grounded to the starter like you told me to do before but I didn't do it with this FASS because I figured if I'm gonna replace the VP I'm not cutting the power wire to the brand new pump. However, even with the relay wired to the starter I was getting hard starts anyway.

need help Fass
I have a needle valve in line and it's probably about 10 inches from the vp. The weird thing about it was when I did the draw straw a couple of weeks ago it was smooth as silk for about an hour then back top the same thing. VP issues include intermittent dead pedal, hard hot starts, codes 216 and 1689. The dead pedal isn't totally dead in that the truck will still accelerate but it's extremely slow acceleration and it seems to happen mostly when coasting and at lower rpms. It never does it if the engine is under load.

need help Fass
I just installed the new FASS titanium 95gpm pump today. While the truck is running the fuel pressure guage bounces back and forth from 10 to 20 psi and it seems like it's in rhythm with the engine. What is making my pressure guage do this? It levels out some when driving. Fuel pressure never drops below 15 psi at WOT. The raptor did something similar but it was more like a vibration in the pressure guage. Air in the pressure gauge line maybe? And I still think the vp is shot. Same symptoms as before. I tried to post a video but it wouldn't work.

VP44 advice needed
So, I installed the draw straw yesterday and at first I thought it was going to help things. I was wrong. My fuel pressure situation has stayed the same 20 psi at idle, 15 at 2k rpm, and last night on the way home I really stomped it in 3rd gear on an incline and she dropped to 7psi. The intermittent pedal problem seems to have improved a little but it's still there. I ordered a FASS titanium series 95 gph pump last night from CPP and also ordered a remote prefilter to install in front of the pump since I removed all the tank filters. I dont really understand whats going on with this thing because she runs as strong as ever when the fuel pedal isn't acting up. Could this be an apps issue or is it all lp/vp related???

draw straw 1
This is a different draw straw than what I have. I have the draw straw 1 from Vulcan. If I remember correctly I shouldn't have to drill the tank. Thanks tho.

Wow that was full of typos. Pardon my mistyping, haha.

I would love to go with a mechanical pump but I can't afford one. The fass pump would be stretching my budget.

My raptor had the quick connects on it but I replaced them with push lock fittings not long after the pump was installed.
