  1. thank you, michael, i will tell the mechanic this. i honestly have no clue what i am doing
  2. ok so this is the 3rd time this has happened... got home today and noticed something steamy and smelly coming from the under the truck... walk around and find my passenger side rear hub practically on fire again :cry:same wheel, 3rd occurence now...last time i had the caliper replaced with a brand new one, that was 4 months and about 7000 miles ago. any idea what the hell could be causing this... i don't know much about brakes, and do not have the tools or knowledge to do anything other than change brake pads by myself...
  3. i've honestly thought of getting some MRE's and canned foods to put in there also, but i dont want to be the crazy guy waiting for the world to end :banghead:i'm always thinking of things. this may or may not be the reason i posted a thread trying to figure out the fuel consumption at idle. might come in handy to know exactly how long i can survive in the warmth before needing to scavenge for diesel fuel from abandoned vehicles :whistle:yes i'm crazy
  4. heres a list of what i carry, i do not carry spare sensors or anything like that, just tools and this junk: [*]spare fuses [*].38 s&w [*]2 boxes of ammo [*]12 ga - 2 boxes of shells [*]wire strippers, needle nose pliers, hammer, pipe wrench, crescent wrench, 3/4 wrench for priming [*]electrical tape of varying colors [*]fluke multimeter [*]coolant [*]2 stroke oil [*]tire plugs [*]folding chair [*]5th of my favorite for hard times and lonely nights [*]machete [*]survival knife with emergency fire starter, band-aids, gauze, sharpener [*]wooden chair leg for those pesky thieves that just deserve a good beating [*]bug spray [*]sunscreen [*]coveralls, long johns, thick socks, extra underwear, t shirts, shorts, gloves (winter and summer) [*]extra fuel filter, oil filter, air filter and water separator [*]tire plug kit [*]1/4 inch drive sockets, metric also [*]1/2 breaker bar with metric and started sockets [*]a can of PB Blaster [*]towels [*]heavy duty flash light with batteries [*]spot light with cigarette outlet charger [*]2 fishing poles [*]3 tackle boxes [*]100 ft extension cord [*]30 ft chain [*]folding military shovel [*]lantern [*]small mouthwash bottle with larger bottle to refill from in toolbox [*]ratcheting screwdriver with 30 interchangeable bits [*]toilet paper [*]very thick sleeping bag [*]tire chock [*]siphoning hose im sure there is tons more im forgetting.. i am prepared for this world to go south quickly, or so i think. i keep finding helpful things that make sense to store, just running completely out of room. im thinking of ditching the backseat soon
  5. thanks for the info! i appreciate it!!
  6. 5,608,310 lb·ft torque @ 102 rpm mother of god..
  7. that would sure get expensive fast. i can barely afford to fill up once a week
  8. that sounds better than 0.8 :ahhh:who knows, i will still idle it like i have been doing i guess
  9. so you think our trucks only use 0.3 GPH at idle? :shrug:we need to get to the bottom of this!
  10. mother of god... i would love to see that thing in person - - - Updated - - - wonder if it means it will only spin a maximum of 102 rpm's, or if that is idle speed?
  11. yea sounds like that would not be good to idle that low!! 300 rpm's would probably sound like it was barely running!!
  12. didnt catch what you meant there. your saying you worry about oil pressure at the 'low idle' of 300-400 rpms, or the stock cummins idle of 800? i dont want to tear anything up, id rather just turn it off 400 times instead

  16. trucks a 6 speed if you dont mind me picking your brain a little bit, what's the difference in idling in warm temperatures versus idling at colder temperatures? does the scanguage show GPH at idle or only when moving? .8 - 1GPH isnt bad at all i suppose had to keep the lady from freezing/complaining! women act like they have never heard of a thing called long johns and bundling up thanks for all the replies guys

thanks guys i hope i can get into the engineering program at UK.. saved up for so 6 years and searched for 1 year all over the country for this exact truck. will never sell it! :thumbup2:can't believe i actually found it 45 minutes away!! i bought it when it had 112k miles on it. owned it about 8 months now.. kills me to put so many miles on it, so im looking for a little 4 banger toyota 4-runner to drive back and forth in. trucks paint job is about a year old, so i don't feel right taking it hunting and up in the mountains, i get too paranoid about the paint haha

Check out the forum regularly, active on Competition Diesel, Cummins Forum, and Diesel Bombers. I figured it was about time to meet even more people I am a college student with 2 semesters left for a certification in Residential Wiring, but changing after that to get an Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering degree. Currently leaning towards mechanical. I am 19 years old, grew up and raised on a farm since birth. Decided I wanted a cummins and nothing else after our old farm truck hit over 750k miles before having engine problems. Saved up money from 12 years old until the day I graduated, then started searching for the perfect truck, which I found! My truck's info is in the signature, I am the 3rd owner of this truck. Worked easy all of its life Heres some pics from the day I bought it until now: Right when I got it home Feel free to give me opinions on what would look better, etc. Only thing I want to add is 3rd gen rims, but the trucks hardly ever clean.. My truck is a bird and cat magnet Hope to get to know some of you!
  20. thought crossed my mind after falling asleep in my truck trying to stay dry one night when camping.ended up letting the truck idle for 7 hours before i woke up and realized it :doh:then i got to thinking. has anyone done any research on how many gallons per hour these things use at stock idle speed (800~rpm)? what about with high idle engaged around 1200 rpm's? also is there any danger in idling these trucks for hours at a time at factory idle speed?
