  2. lol power sqeak huh.....i must not have any power left...mine hasnt done it for a looong time ---------- Post added at 02:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:46 PM ---------- chirp ..i meant power chip ....dang heat has me delirious...especially after fighting a fire
  3. has anyone done anything with their pto ? trying to get ideas that might b useful ...not sure if a pto winch can b used or any thing else that might b useful to a volunteer firefighter/medic
  4. lol isx kinda half serious half joking .....just the way my luck runs i figured that because it did it for a while an then stopped i had something else going wrong with it.
  5. well with my luck it prolly has to do with compression ...high or good compression =squeak ....low compression no squeak ..and the tension prolly all wore out:thud:
  6. right i seem to recall my truck doing it when i first got it but i dont hear it any more....just wondering if i should b concerned or not for not hearing it.
  7. correct me if im wrong but it is common and i should hear the squeak of the fan belt /pulley as my truck is shut off right ?.....can anyone tell me why i would no longer hear this ..aside from the obvious belt broke/missing .....everything else seems to b ok ( i hope:pray::pray:)
  8. not sure how much room is really need for some of the stuff ..mine didnt look that tight ...not wide open like back half of the bed but i figured there was room for some stuff.
  9. ok been a day or two since i showed my ignorance about diesels .so here goes.....i have seen a few posts on the five and six speed manual trannys and several have mentioned pto covers on them ( mostly related to hawkeyes post of his six speed break down ...) my question is is the same type of pto that fire trucks with pump and drive characteristics or farm tractors use ?......and if so then that should mean a much more reliable pto driven winch could b connected to these transmissions right?
  10. ok need a little help here .....I tried a search on the forums and I either did not type in the info or there isnt any thing here ...trying to figure out (1) how difficult and involved changing my duallie rear ...both the bed and the axle to a single rear would be and (2) how it might look ...if some one has any pics or knows where some might b of a truck that has had this conversion done ....
  11. hawkeye....I may not be one of the best as far as information on here but I just recently replaced the clutch in my truck ....most of the south bend clutches come with a new fly wheel ...it is my understanding that yes it is possible to reuse your current flywheel BUT..it will possibly need resurfaced..and i believe it has to b free from major defects ie cracks and major divots...the replacement flywheel from southbend is pretty stout hopefully you have either a few friends or some very nice shop equipment ..i had friends laying out in the snow :lmao:I really couldnt have done it with out friends ...there are a few write ups on the forums about doing this ...also a bottle jack and a 2x4 to slightly spread the frame rails will make the job easier.....not sure about any thing else you might want to do while it was out .....I am sure that michael and a few others will chime in shortly
  12. wow ...thanks for the video ....I'm thinking i should really invest in some gauges so i can see what is going on with the truck.....also I believe that once I do something with the stock fuel setup (raptor air dog fass ) i may need to replace the wg line a melt down is not anything i want to be part of...but wow what a difference it makes according to the video....again thanks
  13. first thank you isx for the info ..second because i havent touched the turbo yet is it safe to assume that i have the hx30 turbo on this truck ?.....also i only have the early version of the edge ez so no selectivity on power levels ...from what research i have done it appears this box only made roughly 65 extra hp.....no other big mods done to the truck as of yet ....so im guessing im pretty safe for now. ---------- Post added at 06:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:37 PM ---------- sorry meant the hx35
  14. ok quick question a few days after getting my truck ....only diesel i have ever owned btw ....i cut the black rubber line and plugged it ...i was told this was the waste gate line .....my question is this ...what are the benifiets or draw backs to cutting and plugging both ends of this line ...?
  15. thanks for the info on changing the pump ..no i did not replace the slave cylinder all i did was replace the old disentegrated clutch and :banghead::banghead::banghead:
  16. okay first an update on the clutch ....so far so good ..no problems out of the new south bend ..other than it seems a little more nosy than the old clutch ...kinda chattering ......still hard to go into third unless its double clutched.......i also am wondering if any one has heard of exhaust brakes being hard on the engine?....i know they help save service brake ...but if they wear the engine unnecessarily it doesnt seem worth it to me...finally (sorry)...how difficult is a p7100 pump change i had the pump gave to me for free
  17. so the clutch went out back in jan. finnaly got it replaced two days ago....did the work myself:banghead: that sucked no concrette driveway.....all grass and gravel.....hopefully it will b fine....thanks to michael and the great info found here the bottle jack for spreading the frame rails came in very handy....now looking to swap my axel (dually) for a single rear ....then some power mods ....open for suggestions from anyone on mods
  18. has any one heard or seen of valair clutches...and any opinions on em?
  19. ok been a while since i had a question here goes ....i've been reading up on the smoke switch and am kinda interested...but i have already cut an plugged the waste gate line on the turbo....will doing the smoke switch work for me or not...? and i dont think i will b able to tell for a while ...the stock clutch that was replaced before i got the truck is shot ...in the process of trying to find a good clutch for less than 700 bucks ...any suggestions
  20. was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on which exhaust brake to use on my green hulk....and if anyone might b able to tell me if this is an easy install( like do it in the driveway with a beer and and a few friends easy) or if its more complicated than that? I was also wondering which system would be the least expensive but still b reliable
  21. not sure if it applies to a disel but i believe a battery is a battery and while there are some other things pulling current off the batteries in a diesel as oppesed to a gasser ....it sounds exactly like my last gasser with all the F.D. lights on it....open cell in the battery....and for what its worth if it is the batteries....lay out the extra cash for the optima red tops
  22. has anyone figured out if there is a true hid upgrade for the 2nd gen yet....i belive for true hid to work with out the light just scattering everywhere and truely blinding on comeing traffic you have to change the light buckets them selves..true?
