  1. Well hopefully I'm not being robbed. The shop I went to is a family members shop :/
  2. Well after letting it get so be that the truck was dropping a gallon every 70 miles, I finally took it to a shop I could trust. The leak was so bad that they suspected a blown head gasket. Thankfully upon further inspection they discovered it was the tappet cover gasket and... The fact that the cover itself had developed a hole and was spewing oil all over the place. $1300 later it looks like the problem is solved.
  3. I'm a fan of simplicity myself and I was having this same problem. Or so it would seem. After some research, digging with a scan tool, I found out there was procedure to calibrate the throttle sensor. Unhook the batteries for 30 minutes, re hook them, turn the ignition on but don't start, slowly depress the throttle all the way to the floor then slowly release all the way up. Then turn ignition off. Sure enough this fixed problem no more rpm jumping at any speed. Just food for thought
  4. It was Team Dodge in Huntsville Tx. I put it in specifically for the front seal but they never even bothered with a quote on anything else such a the rear main that's leaking. The balancer is bad though the rubber is starting to bubble out from the oil my blow by valve let out before I fixed it. But I replace that myself later. The tappet or push rod cover is what I'm worried about
  5. They won't warranty it because I chose not to let them replace my balancer for $700. They wouldn't sleeve it unless I replaced the balancer but they went ahead and replaced my seal knowing that it will eventually go out due to the vibration. Like I said before they didn't even look when I brought it back a second time to diag the new leak because they quoted me a new balancer for the leak.
  6. Yeah it was a dirty move but I'm trying to avoid any more rip off. The leak is right under the IP and if y'all say thats the tappet cover then thats what I will look into.
  7. The dealer did. They promised it back in the same day and only want 150 for the job so it was worth it to save myself the time
  8. Unfortunately I work more than 70hrs a week right now so I have been using the local dodge dealership but when I brought it back to them to diagnose the leak they told me I would have to replace the balancer and fix the groove in the crank. I suspect they didn't even look at the truck, just pulled their records and recommendations and fed that to me.
  9. So am I safe to assume that if I were take this to a shop they would know what I mean by tappet cover?
  10. It may be the vacuum pump but the leak it self is coming out of the engine. It doesn't seem to be coming from any other components. I will try and get a pic of the leak soon
  11. Ok so recently changed the front crank seal on my 01 24v and discovered I need a new balancer and a sleeve for the crank but now I have a much bigger issue. Shortly after I replaces that seal a new leak appeared coming from right above the oil feed line for the power steering pump. And its a visible flow no mistaking where the source is. My question is what am I looking at right there? I can see a seem like you would see for a head gasket but I don't think the head reaches down that far. I've heard the kdp horror stories but this doesn't seem to match up with that problem. Thanks in advance for yalls help!
  12. Ok so SitRep. I think I fixed the problem. I saw some videos of people recalibrating the TPS on their newer trucks by unhooking the battery for at least 30 minutes then hooking it back up turning the ignition on slowly depressing the throttle all the way down and then let it up slowly. Whether the problem is fixed or just covered up for I dont know. But I have tested it in every way I can think. Ive let it bog down in OD at 40mph and had it all the way up to 80 and not a single miss, slip, or blip in the RPM's. So something to look into before going into the crazy cures and super expensive repairs.
  13. Well I didnt have time to do a ride along with the scan tool to see if the blipping corresponded to the numbers not matching up. I'm gonna try cleaning the contacts and maybe a noise filter. If none of that works then I'll try the TPS.
  14. I'm not sure what you mean. The scan tool shows two TPS doing two different things. The one that goes from 0-100 acts normal but the other one is never the same. Sometimes its close to the 1st one but its never showing the same readout - - - Updated - - - Also I tried the MoparMan fix by pulling the alternator fuse and driving it to see if it changed. It didnt change anything.
  15. Well mine is an 01 but the sit. rep. as of now is that I'm suspecting throttle position sensor. We plugged in the scan tool and it showed that the TPS has 2 values as if its monitoring in 2 different spots. At closed throttle the readings were TPS1: 00.00 and TPS2: 9.76. At full throttle the readings were TPS1: 100.00 and TPS2: 77.6. They never matched at any point in between either. So its looking like I might have 2 sensors arguing over what gear to be in.
  16. So my parts department at my work says his 00' Cummins had the same problem and the issue was the throttle positioning sensor. I'm planning on hooking up one of our high-end scan tools to see if I can get a code out of it. But its a $200 gamble vs a $1000 gamble.
  17. Well I acutally work at a chevy dealership so I have access to scan tools but theres no codes in the system and its never shown one
  18. Ok so heres the update. Took a 50 mile trip down the freeway yesterday and it bucked me the whole way there while cruising around 70-75mph. Then today I've had no problems all day. Even when it bogs down in OD at like 40mph. I have no clue what to think of it now.
  19. Well it stops blipping if I actually give it throttle it locks in but I guess I'll start pricing a TC. You know what they say for every repair is a chance for an upgrade!
  20. Well I'm the second owner and from what I can turn up the previous owner owner used it to haul a 5th wheel camper for most of its life. But I dont run it hard at all and the truck is mostly original despite having 217000 on the clock. But I'll give the full flush a try and see if it makes it any better. My only thing is my truck drops in OD as low as 40mph if I let off the throttle and thats where it really acts up is at those super low 1200-1400 rpm range.
  21. So you suppose its the TC and not the actual transmission?
  22. I've never felt any shuttering while it was acting up or any time really
  23. Lately when my truck shifts in to OD I get what feels like a slip and causes the RPMs to bounce up and down. It even acts like this at around 30-35 mph sometimes. But mostly between 40-55 when the engine is running around 1500 to 1700 rpm. Any ideas as to what this may be?
