My new Exhaust: Diamond Eye Performance 5" TBE
Yeah.. I need a smoke switch, like you've got in your video ;) One day, I'll get a programmer, I guess.. My (last) old Beetle.: '65 chop top, 2285cc Pauter motor, bus trans, dual 48IDA Webers, 13:1 CR,, a little "spray", etc., etc..

My new Exhaust: Diamond Eye Performance 5" TBE
That's at least a '67 Beetle, or older, huh! --- Update to the previous post... Your 4" DE exhaust has that same little fluttery sound mine has. sounds like, oh, I dunno.. a tiny exhaust leak at the outlet LOL

My new Exhaust: Diamond Eye Performance 5" TBE
I'll give it a whirl then..On another note, I can hear what 'sounds' like possibly a little loose valve tension.. Are the settings like .010"-I and .020"-E on the valve clearances?

My new Exhaust: Diamond Eye Performance 5" TBE
I tried to video it with my phone, as that's the only video device I have, but it records in some wacky format, that I can't seem to play on the laptop, and a short vid is huge in MB.. :banghead:

My new Exhaust: Diamond Eye Performance 5" TBE
4 days in, now, and I'm liking the new exhaust. It's so nice and quiet in the cab now. I can hear the radio again. :)Has a low grumble to it, but not overpowering.

I've also ran several different setups, and this one is probably the quietest of tHem all. I like it so far, and will try to get video soon.

Justice Brothers, JB-80. Not in your mainstream stores, but your locals, mom/pop places (NAPA, etc.) About 6-7$ can, but well worth it IMO. I'll walk around 10 cans of WD40 and such, to get to my can of JB-80. HOWEVER, do NOT use it to lube a drill bit drilling through metal. It's got friction modifiers and will STOP the friction/cutting... Yes, it will. They've got tons of stuff (additives and such), and all are great products. I used to be a distributor for JB products, and was always blown away at their functionality and doing what they say they'll do. edit: Oh yeah, the exhaust was under $500. --- Update to the previous post... Other stuff I use are the diesel fuel supplements, chain lubes, internal engine cleaners, oil treatments, gear oil treatments, etc.. Yes, I really believe in the stuff, even though I'm no longer affiliated with them. Auxiilary Fuel tank
:crickets:I know it's an 'old' thread, but still.. I've contemplated building a fuel cell to replace the spare tire area, being that I'm already short on cargo space with the 6.5ft bed...

My new Exhaust: Diamond Eye Performance 5" TBE
Just a quick post about my new exhaust. I had only a stock downpipe and a short piece, cut off right before the OE muffler, coupled with a turn-down. That was it..So I got a Diamond Eye Galv. Steel 5" turbo-back exhaust from my buddy Jeremy @ Disturbed Diesel.Removal of the stock downpipe was a little rugged, with my (5) 6-inch extensions put together, a 13mm socket, ratchet, PB Blaster, and JB-80.PBB wouldn't do squat, so I shot it with JB-80 and out the two bolts came. As you can see, the new DP is 3" bell to 4" downpipe, to 5" adapter, then 5" the rest of the way. In the above picture, there's a 40" x 5" piece of tube not shown. This piece would later prove to need cut down to around 19", and used pre-muffler.Took me a few hours to install, laying on my back, 30-35*F and breezy, in the driveway. The directions were as generic as you can get, so it took some thought process, and a little creativity to get it all mounted, and use as many factory hanger positions as possible.I ultimately located pieces as such:DP > Adptr > 40" section > muffler > 19" section(cut earlier) > over-axle > Tail section (end needs shortened, as it'll clear a DRW application, as well.)I actually ended up welding the adapter to the 40" section to eliminate the need for that clamp.I ended it it all with a 6" SS tip, just to 'dress' it up a touch. Even if it's like putting lipstick on a hog.. :cookoo:Results: I can HEAR again!! I can hear the engine over the exhaust, whereas I've not been able to do so, prior. And I get to turn the radio down now :)And the turbo whistle is very pronounced. As for the exhaust note, it's a lot deeper tone, and sounds pretty good, actually. Once the muffler gets a few hot-cycles on it, I'll let you know how it sounds then, as I assume it'll get a touch louder, and better tone to it. We'll see, though.

- Fuel tank size(s)
My tank measures roughly 6'L x 1'W x 1'H. it's a little tapered up front, but a little bulbous in the rear of the tank (yes, folks. the FUEL tank LOL ) So it roughly evens out, using generalization. So we'll say it's about 6 cu. ft. in volume. 1cf = 7.48gal.. So we'll call it 7.4gal to account for variations in the tank's design. 7.4 * 6 = 44 gal.. That means I'm way off, somewhere. I know this tank isn't anywhere near 44gal. No way. :banghead: --- Update to the previous post... When swapped from auto to manual in my 12v, i saw about a 4-5mpg increase in city, But maybe 1-2 on highway. As for the cr differences, aren't we talking TENTHS difference? That's minimal. A more measurable differenc would be realized with .5-1.0 or more in seperation. I've kicked around the whole propane injection thing for a couple yes now, just haven't pulled the trigger yet.- Shocks

I agree with isx in the respect that the two trucks are far different, as well as the terrain and air density. However, thhe principles are the same in testing. Isx getting 27-28mpg boggles my mind, if he's getting consistently (empty) and mixed driving. Highway travel, I can believe it. My 96 got 26.9mpg at 65mph with 265-75/16, 5spd, 4x4, sclb, bhaf, #10 fuel plate full forward, arc full forward, Jacob exh brake, 4" dp, 7" stack, on a round trip from Virginia to new York. The 2nd trip, at 73 netted about 21.7mpg. Around my local area, which is a combination of hills, mountains, and flats, it averaged (with ~80% city driving,) it averaged about 19-21mpg. Pulling my 9000lb enclosed trailer, which is like pulling a shipping container around, the '96 got about 16-17mpg. Moving to the '01 24v, ( bhaf, no muffler, cropped exhaust at back of cab, 6 speed qcsb, 4x4, 265-70-16), a steady highway run to southern Virginia (240mi round trip) netted 17.6 @ 68mph. Same city travel as the old truck, this one only gets about 14mpg. Hook up to the trailer, and I'm lucky to see north of 10-11mpg. Additionally, there's a mountain that I pass with about a 1000' rise in elevation over the course of about 1.5mi, so it's quite steep for here. Pulling the trailer, the old truck would climb this in 5th, hitting the bottom at 70, and crossing the top at 65-68. The 24v (no real power adders) will take the same trailer, hit the bottom in 6th at 70mph, and I'll have to drop 2 gears and crest the mountain at around 40-45mph. Drastically different. Way less power, and way less economy. Diesel is now 3.19/gal here, so better economy is a high priority to me. I'll be glad to assist in anything i can to help with this quest "we're" on.- Why are aftermarket cab lights so difficult to find?
Thanks. I'll most likely go with the ones I posted above at $44.- MPG fooler - Design phase
12v and 24v pistons are almost identical, with exception to bowl shape and size. The latter one has a centered bowl with an angled dome in it. A 12v has an offset bowl to account for injector placement, and it's center dome is ramped on one side where the injector sprays. Cr I don't know.- Fuel tank size(s)
- Why are aftermarket cab lights so difficult to find?
I found a template of sorts, but it was for a 1 gen. I'll ultimately just use the cab skin holes as a guide and go from there.- Fuel tank size(s)
I'll take a couple pics when i fill up. I'm still gonna try to measure my tanks dimensions, once the friggin wind quits blowing 60mph!- MPG fooler - Design phase
WTF? was that a typo? Thats more like it, size-wise... 315/85/16 is almost a 37x12.50- Wellll, I can't compete with this..
I'll try to do that this evening. Glad you enjoyed them!- Wellll, I can't compete with this..
