More Power!!!!
Guys thanks for the suggestions on my previous thread of which chip to run. I towed my 28' 5th wheel this weekend and I took the Super Chip out and ran it stock. Honestly, it sucked!! Lacked power. I wasnt smart enough to take the Super Chip with me and load the tow safe mode when towing back today. I did get a error code though. P0234 I think it was Turbo overboost condition. What causes this and how to prevent it??? --- Update to the previous post... Oh yeah, by the way, the truck ran fine all the way home.

What chip to run
I recently installed 4 gauges in my truck, new lift pump, new exhaust and new BHAF. I was running my "Super Chip" in my truck and noticed that my exhaust temp peaked a few times around the 1200+ range when I would step on it and had my Super Chip installed. I uninstalled my Super Chip and noticed a 400 degree drop in temp.Honestly, I dont need my Super Chip installed at all times other than either hauling my camper or pulling my tractor and I dont need it either pulling them when I am on level ground which is what most of the interstates by me are.So I am looking for a chip that I can flip on/off at a moments notice instead of programming my truck. My truck is an 2001 Cummins Quad Cab 4x4. Something that isnt going to cost me dearly too. I am still working on my "honey do list" from the recently added items mentioned above.

Hooking up my guages.....HELP
Guys, I am having some issues about hooking up some of my guages for my 2001 Cummins Quad Cab 4x4. I bought 4 guages (Isspro for my fuel pressure and Auto Meter for the rest) from Cummin Performance Diesel through Jamie. Spent plenty of time of the phone with him an he was extremely helpful. I purchased a trans and exhaust temp guage, boost and fuel pressure guages. I have some questions on the exhaust hookup for the probe. Instructions say to drill into the manifold and tap with a 1/8 npt, not a problem, 1. Wondering if the temp probe would be better in the 4" exhaust right after the turbo vs. the manifold? 2. How do you keep any tap you put in the manifold or exhaust from leaking? Will tap last at those temps? 3. My ceramic washer that came with the unit was broke when I got it, can I purchase another locally at a hardware or automotive store? Lighting up my guages: 1. I want all my guages (all 4) to light up when I turn on my lights at night. How in the hell do I hook all 4 guages to my light switch? 2. Does my dash come apart so I can get to the light switch or is there an easier way? 3. Can i run all 4 guages (all 4 positive leads) onto my light switch without problems? My fuel pressure guage 1. I purchased a fuel pressure isolator R7797 to keep the fuel out of my truck and a fuel pressure snubber that Jamie recommended, where does the snubber go? 2. My drawing for my fuel pressure isolator shows stainless steel braided hose from the isolator to the guage, the package came with flex plastic tube. Is the plastic tube what I run from the isolator to the guage? 3. I did purchase 6' of braided line that I was planning on running from the fuel pressure isolator to the fuel T that I didnt receive as of yet. Am I correct on my assumptions or am I way off base. Thanks guys!!!!!!

Gages for my truck, which ones
How about the Bully Dog WatchDog? I do like the idea of less guages in the truck vs. having 4 guages. 3 on the rail and one on the steering column.

Funny,I was just looking at these and going to ask the very same question.

Update on my truck
Don't take that from those guys Mike:lmao: Well got approval for the order today that I am doing on Monday. I checked my APPS and re-plugged it in with a check engine light on. Disconnected the battery and did the re-calibration and "Wolla" no check engine light. Ok, so here is the order for Monday. My plans are to shop around online for pricing tomorrow. 1. 4" exhaust with muffler from the turbo back.2. Ditched my K&N filter and looking at a BHAF with the cover. I want a heat shield, where can I get one?3. New lift pump that Mike suggested.4. 4 guages - Boost, fuel pressure, tranny & exhaust 5. 3 rail pod and a single over the steering column . open to suggestions on the best place for the guages?? Any suggestions on which website to look & purchase?

Update on my truck
If you read my tranny post recently, you know I have been having issues with my truck while hauling my 5th wheel. I have posted a couple of posts on here and I have to say, I have learned alot already from a bunch of good, knowledgable people on this forum. For that I say "Thank You"!!!! Mike had the kindness to call me personally tonight and talk to me for almost an hour and discuss my truck issues. Mike, you are one hell of a guy and I will always support this site and tell many others!!!!! Great people like you are hard to find and I thank you once again for the great information. You sound like one hell of a guy. Mike was even giving major credit to all the people on the forum too who have found out some information he passed along to me. Ok, for the truck update. At first I thought I was having transmission shifting issues. I never did smell any burning transmission smell, my oil looked very red yet (had it changed 8000 miles ago with filter), it never clunked nor make any noise. The more i look into it, the more I think it is not the tranny. After talking to Mike today and my error code I got yesterday (but not today when I checked it again) I got the famous P0216 code meaning the injector pump is going. Well I ran a scan today with my SuperChip and I got no code nor did I clear out the code from yesterday. Ran the code thru my truck too with the turning on the truck key fast 3x, no error code either. So, I did a few things today. I printed off a few article from this site for my homework tonight. I tested the lifter pump volume. Says to disconnect after the filter and measure the amount that comes out after you bump the starter but dont start the truck. Article says to have 45oz or more of fuel becuase the pump will run I believe 25 seconds. I am guessing I have about 42oz. Says anything under 45 replace the lifter pump. Secondly I checked the APP sensor. Checked the voltage which was in spec but the resistance was way off (assuming I did that correctly). I will ask one of the controls engineers at work tomorrow. If I did do it correctly, I need to replace the APP sensor. Resistance is to be 5 Ohms if I recall, and my meter is reading .5 Ohms. Third thing, I took off that K&N air filter like everyone else here said to do and put back my paper media filter. I am going to order the BHFA air filter and cover. $75 is cheap in my opinion for a longer turbo life. Changed my fuel filter also. I have a few more things to check thanks to Mike, but this is all I got to today. Will keep you posted.

Gages for my truck, which ones
I have a 2001 Quad Cab Cummins and I want to put some gages on it. Exhaust temp, boost, fuel pressure and tranny temp. What are the good accurate gages to get? Are GlowShift a good gage?? Guy in town sells them but I prefer to have quality over anything. If they arent accurate, they are junk in my opinion. Also does anyone make a rail pod to hold 4 gages? I see 3. Was planning on buying a 3 and then adding another above the steering column????? I see you can buy those too. Thanks

Towing in OD or Drive for my 5th wheel
I'm like flagmanruss. I never use my cruise towing and I have a very light foot also while towing especially starting out. I use my OD ON/OFF button when going up a steep hill. I dont let my transmission lug either. I always take it out of OD when going through a small town or if the speed limit drops to 45mph for some reason. At about 55mph, I will hit my OD ON/OFF button and let it shift to OD. Any interstate driving, I use OD.

K&N filter good or bad for 2001 Dodge Cummins?
I have been told by others on a different site to dump my K&N air filter and go back to a paper media filter as they are better. Anyone know if this is true? I have a 2001 Dodge Cummins Quad Cab 4x4. Thanks

2001 Tranny shifting issues
I thought I posted this on this site before but cant find it?? I might be losing it. I pulled my 28' 5th wheel to the U.P. for a week of camping. Everything was seemingly fine until someone in front of me, about 5 miles before the campgrounds, stopped to turn left on the 2 lane highway. When I took off after they turned, my truck was shifting funny. It didnt want to go from 3rd gear to 4th. I had to feather the throttle to get it to shift. I pulled my buddy's boat around all weekend without any issues. Came home yesterday from a 3 hour drive hauling our 5th wheel and going down the highway, it pulls fine without any issues. As soon as I turned off the highway to get to my house, once again the same shifting issue. I did notice that where my exhaust goes around the rear axle, a hole in the top of the exhaust. Was planning on replacing my exhaust anyways, but when I got to the campgrounds, I noticed my exhaust pipe broke off from the rear of the muffler. Would that heat up the under carriage of my truck, or mess with the back pressure enough to cause my truck to do this? I had my tranny fluid and filter changed at the dealership about 8,000 miles ago. My truck is a 2001 Dodge 2500 4x4 Quad cab short box Cummins with 83,000 miles on it now. The fluid does not smell burnt nor did I ever smell any sort of hot tranmission smell at the campgrounds or at my house when I got home. I have read online something as simple as my battery connections not grounding the tranny. I dont think it is a mechanical issue, I am guessing a sensor or grounding issue. Forgot to say, no dummy lights came on my dash at anytime i was having shifting issues. Does the 2001 allow the use of code reading for the tranny? My SuperChip has a dianogistic tool on it and I scanned my truck and it came up with an error code of P0216 which is a injector pump. :banghead::banghead:  Would a bad injector pump make my original problems of shifting. I have put my foot down on the throttle when this happens and no power at all unless I feather it to shift, then it will slowly increase in speed. Do I need to replace the lifter pump if I am replacing the injector pump? HELP!!!! Anyone have an idea of what it could be???

Towing in OD or Drive for my 5th wheel
I know this conversation has been around forever, but while asking people what to tow my 5th in, I get about a 50/50 split on answers, so I am asking here.I have a 2001 Dodge Cummins, Quad Cab 4x4 with the 3.54 ratio. Only mod's to the motor are the SuperChip set to "tow-safe mode" and a K&N air filter. My 5th weights about #9500 and I dont tow my 5th under 55mph with OD. My problem comes in when I hit the interstate and run 65mph. My motor will scream if I leave it in Drive. What is the correct towing procedure??????

Modification suggestions needed
I have a 2001 Dodge Cummins Quad Cab short box that I purchased new. It has 83,000 miles and for the most part, this truck has been bullet-proof. Wisconsin winters can be rough on vehicles. I try to wash my vehicle after using it in the winter. I have a car for my everyday driving. Well, being 10 yrs old, it is time to put some money into it. Couple of modifications I want to do: 1. I need a new exhaust. Want to go from the turbo back with a 4". Who makes the best one with a muffler?2. I want a bank of 3 guages on my rail, turbo pressure, trans. temp and exhaust temp, who makes best and how easy are they to hook up?3. I noticed rust under my truck when pulling out my broken exhaust. I do paint the under carriage at least once a year but I need to do better, what do you use to keep the rust at bay? Only real difference from stock is my SuperChip I have in it set at tow safe mode and a K&N air filter.

Does the 2001 allow the use of code reading for the tranny? Everything I read shows a TPS sensor, but at a couple hundred bucks, I dont want to be buying parts to replace just for the sake of hunting and pecking. I have read you can clean the TPS sensor also, is this true? I have no codes come up on my truck, but can a code reader fine this? The problem is when I bring it in, it does not do it until the truck is really working. At least for now, just driving around does not do it.Anyone have an idea of what it could be???
