  1. After a couple weeks now I’m pretty sure I solved the issue. I replaced the brake light switch that actuates with the brake pedal. No more intermittent issues. As always, Thanks for all the help!
  2. Here’s some data on tested diesel additives. Schaeffer’s “technically”ranked slightly better than 2 cycle when used at 200:1. I guess at 128:1 2 cycle is better. Schaeffers still seems to be a decent additive.
  3. Ive been using Schaeffer Diesel Treat 2000 for awhile now. I acquired a gallon of the stuff and have read good things. Hopefully that sufficient for anti gel and lubrication of the VP44. I don’t expect anything colder than the teens. At that temp is the block heater necessary?
  4. Taking my first road trip in ‘Betty White’. She’s lived a long life here in SoCal. Is there anything I should worry about or prep for when traveling up to the Utah/Colorado cold weather?
  5. Quick update. Last week I found that several of the wires that connect to the brake light switch had gotten hot at some point. This is still a very new truck to me. There is also a trailer brake controller wired in. Unfortunately it appears to have been installed by a poorly trained ape haha. I left the brake controller installed but will definitely have to take care of that mess soon. As for the wires to the brake light switch, I repaired and heat shrunk them. So far the light hasn’t come back on. I’ll keep you posted.
  6. Doesn’t the parking brake cause the light on the dash to flash?
  7. I saw the switch has “do not reinstall” printed on it. I didn’t want to mess with it. I’ll look into this being an issue. Thanks for the reply.
  8. Nothing out of the ordinary with the rear connector. It was secure. No water, dirt or corrosion inside the connector. The parking brake engages and disengages property. I took the switch out and gave it a quick cleaning. There doesn’t seem to be any excessive slack in the system.

  10. Dash brake light randomly illuminates. Sometimes it stays on from start up and will turn off within 10-15 min of driving. Other times it comes on and off while driving. It’s not the parking brake. That appears to be working properly. When the parking brake is engaged the dash light comes on. If I start to drive it will flash. When I release the parking brake it extinguishes. Brake fluid looks good. Upgraded to 3rd Gen brakes up front and did a full brake job 4 months ago. Had no issues until now. Only recent maintenance is new tires. They are 34s. this issue
  11. I appreciate the tip. After looking at countless different ball joints at nearly $300 dollars price difference a piece, I decided on the Moog 7394 and 7397. Hope they work out
  12. Thanks. I used the blue stuff. Hopefully they will come off. I’m doing ball joints and hubs next week so they won’t be on there too long.
  13. The only time I’ve experienced death wobble was on the 99 Jeep TJ. Similar front steering setup as or 2nd gens. Replaced everything in the front end. New HD steering, adjustable control arms, adjustable track bar. I would still get occasional death wobble. I found that it was triggered when I was braking above 55. One day I got it during an abrupt slowdown on the highway. After the wobble the jeep was pulling hard to the right. Found the brake caliper was stuck. Replaced the calipers and have never had it since. Just wanted to share my experience. ??

  15. Can’t find the torque spec for the rear caliper bracket. 2001 Cummins ram 2500 with ABS and rear disc. Appreciate any help ?? FSM 5-3 is where I was looking. It’s just not clear to me.

  17. Yes. According to this site 3.57:1 final ratio. If I go 4.10 ill be at 2.83 final ratio. 70mph at 2016rpm now that I’m looking at it I don’t think tire size is included in the final drive ratio Calculator
  18. Ive been reading through a few of your older posts that cover this issue. I found another more “in-depth calculator” where I was able to put in the 47re gears and see what rpm Is at what speed. http://Www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html So I’m looking at Falken A/T3W 285/70r17 which are exactly 33” in diameter. With 3.73 gears the final ratio is 2.57. 70mph = 1834 rpm. Does that sound about right? What is the ideal cruising rpm for long haul gas mileage?
  19. Appreciate all the info. Unfortunately Ox doesn’t make a locker for the 70 or 80. Gonna shop around a bit. Still trying to figure out the best gear ratio and tire size. I’m working out my priorities for this build as well

  21. Been looking at a few lockers for both my jeep and Ram. Really want OX Manual lockers but they don’t make them for a Dana 70. Bummer. So now it’s between air or electronic.
  22. Installed a nations alternator. Looking at 50mVAC off the B+ and 20mVAC at the battery. Gonna keep monitoring it and see if I see any symptoms of excessive noise.
  23. Ran into this exact issue on my jeep. Angles all messed up. Wicked death wobble at 55. I have all adjustable control arms and track bar. Was planning on doing similar to the truck but I think I may have underestimated a stock rams offroad capability. Again...I think I’ve underestimated her abilities. I haven’t poked around too much with the axles. Did rams come from the factory with LSDs? After I get the camper built I’ll check in with north county spring.   24. New denso starter installed. W-T mod and complete charge system rewiring complete. Fired right up. This is what I’m seeing off the B+ with the ground on the alternator chassis. 46mVAC with the occasional 57mVAC when something kicks on.
