I live in Canada. And because I do I got really tired of plugging in my truck during winter in hopes it’ll warm it up enough for easier cold starts. I recommend everyone running of these.

 

Couple years ago I installed a Webasto coolant heater. I’m sure you all know how they work so I won’t explain it.

 

I run an aftermarket bumper so I mounted the Webasto bracket to the old oem support bracket in the passenger side so keep it close to the engine as possible. I plumbed the water lines to engine via the water pump housing lower outlet (where the trans cooler fitting would have been if it was equipped). The pump is located up by the R/H battery and plumbed into the firewall heater core inlet. I’ve deleted the pipe that runs under the turbo to clean it up. 
 

I’ve run the electrical & fuel line through the frame rail attached to various points with p clamps to keep things in place. 

 

The controller is in the glove box and I can control it via an app on my phone for programmed starts.

K19, there’s an engine I haven’t seen in a while. I still miss the 444 and the N14. Times have changed.

 

 

In 2000, I was working in Vehicle Maintenance at the Copper Mountain Ski area in Colorado.  We started using Wabasto heaters on our buses.  Nothing like opening the doors on a 10°F below zero morning and stepping into an already warm bus.

Reverse. How about firing up a Cummins and driving 20 miles and still have little coolant temp because the engine doesn't make much heat even with 200°F thermostat from a 6.7L.

Mine was doing the same thing. I just recently replaced the t-stat with a 205° Mishimoto thermostat, and installed a brand new blower motor. The old blower motor was caked up with crud and it wouldn't spin one revolution by hand.

 

Then I flushed the heater core several times in both directions, since I got this truck in March of this year. It has a brand new aluminum radiator and fan clutch in it now as well. 

 

There's no way that I would pay $1k+ for one of these heaters though. There's not that much material there to warrant that super inflated price for what it is. They're just price gouging the market at those prices.

Suggestion don't come to Idaho. You can have a block heater but there is no current bush to plug it into, We see -40*F temperatures and nowhere to plug in so I built Beast to be cold-started between the high idle software and other things I can start without on even if I went snowmobiling into the back country and come back and cold stat a -40*F unplugged. Block heater are only good if you are at home where the block heater can be plugged in. Like when I go back to the hospital there is nowhere to plug in and my truck sat for 4 days while in surgery last year.

@Mopar1973Man, @Mace  is referring to a Wabasto engine block heater that is powered by DIESEL FUEL from the trucks fuel tank.  It is exactly what you would want when it is - 40° and no place to plug in.
