Programming ECM

Itryed to install Smarty on my truck the other day and error code came up and would not let me program. So to check out smarty we installed on my buddy's truck and it took no problem. I am starting to think there might be a program already on ECM that might explain the smoke when I crank down on it. What reader do I need to identify whats on ecm?

You are probably going to have to go to a dealership and pay for a stock tune. Nothing out there will remove the aftermarket tune. I'm 99% sure Smarty can't do anything for you, but have you called Bob? www.smartypower.com When you call him be ready to plug the Smarty in and tell him the error code.

I talked to the previous owner of the truck today and he swears he never put a program in the truck. I found another Smarty and the guy said we can try it first, so I guess we'll try it again.

Have you updated the 1st Smarty yet? There were some ECM updates that the Smarty had to be re-programmed for. www.madselectronics.com But either way calling Bob wont hurt, he's a great guy. If you do call him be sure tell him I said the new Jr tune is great!

The guy said he did the updates the day before he left it with me. We even thought maybe he did something wrong, but he down loaded on his truck and it took just fine. It's got me baffled. I really need to get trans. fixed up with at least a valve body and exhaust, gauges. I am putting the cart before the wagon. Just tired of the low fuel mileage.

When you plug it into the truck it should tell you the version. The current version is S06V419AR21E for non-PoD and S06PV405AR21E for PoD.

All it did was come up Error not reconized (how ever you spell that lol)

That sounds like it needs an update. Plugging it into the computer will also tell you the software version.

Years ago Bob reprogrammed the ecm. There are a few of them still around. Maybe your truck is one of them. You could send Bob your smarty and the ecm he will fix it up.

I let that smarty go back, he just let be barrow it. I am thinking I like the s06, it's got HP and I like the code reader. But I also hear good things about the smarty jr.

You need the s03 for a 2nd gen. Do you have another truck other than the one in the sig ?

He has an 05, listed in the bottom of his sig.
