Real pain to get to the front bolt/nut(can't remember which it is) under the vp44:banghead:

Easier to just remove the VP44 and everything else... I know it not a fun job but you'll be much happier keeping the oil in the crankcase...

do i need to add sealant to the gasket when i assemble?

Yep referred as the tappet cover gasket by napa. Got a gasket and sent it over to the local college for there diesel students to fix. Best part no more leaks and free labor!

okay, so the problem was the gasket after all. toughest part of the change was getting all the way back and removing the disel fuel return "tee" to get that bracket out of the way. thanx all for the feedback.
