Without the 1st 12 valves, a 24 valve is just that... a 12 valve :smart::tongue:

Ah, but its good to have museum pieces out and about sometimes. To let the young know how you old guys had it, back in the day. :thumbup2: Such pastimes like setting the timing, adjusting an idle, and walking 3 miles uphill to school both ways... while barefoot... in the snow... while fighting off injuns. The toils of Those Who Went Before should not be forgotten, but remembered with respect.

When looking at all the new technology and gadgets on the new trucks, the 2nd gens remind me of a bottle of wine. Just keeps getting better with age :cheers:

It reminds me of my teenage years with Mopar muscle cars. Now we are doing all over again with diesel trucks. What's even more strange is my first car was a 1973 Dodge Charger (hence my nickname). But the 1973 Dodge Charger was the first year of smog control on the muscle cars. But had all the mild bonuses of electronic ignition and a few other nice mods compared to earlier models. Just like 2002 was the last of the first series smog controlled Cummins diesels with electronic controls. So when you look at it that way I got the best of both vehicles for the time. Now to make the Cummins last another 10 years and hope for a new technology to replace the common rail fuel system. :whistle:

My dad, much like AH64, considers the 05-07 5.9L to be the perfect truck. I like the 02, aside from the lack of 4 true doors. As for the new technology Mike... I wouldn't personally be surprised if these things remain valuable and are rebuilt like the muscle cars of your youth unless the EPA pulls their head out of their nether region. In industry, I just don't see it. The only real option given the current regs in my opinion is natural gas turbocharged spark ignition engines or a natural gas/diesel engine. Which could be cool, but it won't be nearly as cheap as the diesel designs that we see today.

I would have to agree with you about the lack of a true crew cab...if one existed in the 2nd gen bodies I would probably keep my truck indefinitely. My hand is being forced within the next year or two to get something with a full back seat. We do too much traveling in the summer to not have one and before long my boys will have outgrown the back seat of my truck. Doesnt mean my 2nd gen will be going anywhere though :whistle:

I saw one... it existed. Dodge made a couple true four doors for their shows. I saw it at the National Western Stock Show back in the late 90s. It was a long bed 2wd 4 door with a wild custom show paint job on it. It was parked out back of the National Western and I think that they used it for the show in some way. I would love to know what happened to that thing.
