I've read about the upgrade you can do with changing out the rear wheel cylinder to a chevy 1 ton.

 

On Michael's article, it says to buy NAPA Part#37337. On the NAPA website, it says its a M10x1 for the mounting bolt size. Well I don't have a NAPA close by, so I crossed it over to Autozone and Oriellys and found the wheel cylinder there. But the Autozone and Oreilly cylinder says it has a 3/8 x 24 thread size.

 

Has anybody done this that know exactly what mounting bolt size they are? Or can I just buy new 3/8 bolts, or will the 3/8th bolt have to much play in the mounting holes on the back plate?

You shouldn't need to buy new bolts. The existing ones screw right in. In fact, the outside of the wheel cylinder looks the same. I have changed them on one truck in my driveway with hand tool si under an hour. Simply unhook the brake line, unbolt the two bolts and pop the old ones out and reverse the procedure for the new ones. Leave the bleeder open until you get brake fluid coming out and tighten the bleeder and you are done! This is one of the best upgrades you can do. The truck will no longer nose dive when you are using lots of brakes, but it will just kind of squat down and stop better.

Right, they look the same. But the Napa comes with metric thread where the bolt on, verse the autozone and oreilly come with standard thread.

 

So I need to know if the stock bolts are metric or standard thread. Where did you buy yours at MnTom?

 

I think the easiest thing to do is just go buy them. If there not the same thread I'll just order the ones off napa website.

I *think* I got both sets I did at NAPA. They are a common item so they didn't have to be ordered in. They used the same bolts. If you need bolts they are only 1/2" long by what ever thread you have. It should be real easy to get the correct bolts. Just remember, all they do is go through the backing plate and into the cylinder.

I don't know what years they fit. Just tell NAPA (or anywhere else) the part number you want. Don't even tell them what you are going to put them on before you have them in your hand. They will give you a real strange look.......

That's what I did. Went to NAPA, told them "I want 2 #####". Went home with them, put them on, gravity bled them. Drove off. Well, I did do a full brake hardware kit & new shoes. All of that took 1 1/2 hours. If I was doing just the cylinders, it would take about 1/2 hour per side.

Don't worry about the part numbers, just get some for a 1995 Chevy dually. The 1 ton single wheel has a different part number than the Dually and you want Dually. I did them on my 98 and think they came from advance auto or possible Napa but either way they bolt right up. I did a set on a buddies 2001 and he usually shops at autozone.
