Where to start.. Well, its been quite a while since I've been on this site, I'm happy to see its going well!Just purchased another cummins after missing my 98 after selling it a year or so ago. This is a 91 d250 2wd automatic.#1 After driving it for a couple hundred miles with wandering steering the truck suddenly started shaking as if I had a flat tire. Well, I do not. I suspect its likely in the front end. I jacked up the wheels and there is a small amount of play in the bearings but not enought that I think this is the source of the shaking.#2 Excessive blowby. Is there anything I can do to keep from smoking out the cars beside me at a stoplight? Or is the motor just…

So far I have tried the following:1) Charge and test the battery at NAPA -- battery tests out "Good"2) Test starter at NAPA -- spins easily, sounds good3) Removed starter solenoid cover -- oil on contacts, contacts and plunger are pitted. Cleaned and sanded contacts4) Clean and tighten battery terminals5) Clean main engine groundThe only idea I have left is to remove the positive cable and ohm it out to see if it has a broken connection. The starter contacts do not look like new, and are probably 8 years old. Is it possible the starter will run for NAPA but won't on the truck because of contacts? Thanks in advance for your help.

My heater smells really bad, and I have taken it apart far enough to reach inside to the bottom of the plastic heater box and feel antifreeze. So it needs to come out.The issue I have is how to get to it. There is small panel that comes off easily so I can see part of the core. I can also see a vacuum actuate flap that closes off air flow to the core.At this point, is the best plan of action to remove major pieces of plastic and/or dash to get at this? Or is that needed? I haven't found a step by step removal how-to for the 1st Gen D250. But how-tos for other cars talk about removing a small rectangle of heater core box for access, then riveting a cover over the hole.…

so i spent the better part of today looking around town trying to find a steering u-joint to connect to my steering box (i had to cut mine to get it off). after about 45min on google i found a place called woodward steering, they sell steering adapters and u-joint's with various size configurations. I'm not sure if they're DOT approved or not ? also according to these guys a "mustang power rack" shares the same (.735" x 36) spline size. just a little FYI to save you guys some trouble who may have run into the same problem. Woodward Steering http://www.woodwardsteering.com/images/steering%20universal%20joints.pdf found another company called Borgeson they carry the …

Hey guys, new to the site. I've had mostly diesel vehicles, but I'm new to cummins. I'm a new owner of a 1993 350 Dually with the 12v 5.9. I love it so far, however, I have a pretty bad fuel leak. There is a little hose (about 1/8" or smaller diameter, about 1" long) that is on the right side of what appears to be the fuel injection pump. I think i've read that it's supposed to be a return hose that feeds excess fuel back to the tank. At idle, it will leak about 1/2qt of fuel per minute. I have only done about 225 miles and am at a half tank, which seems like unusually low gas mileage for the engine. It only has 140k miles on it, barely broken in! I can't find an…

Yesterday I had to go rescue my dad because the ignition in his truck went bad. He was checking out a roofing job and he got in his truck to leave and the key would not turn for anything, tried the spare key too and got the same result. So we took the steering column apart and fixed it so the steering wheel lock wouldn't lock the wheel up and then hot-wired the truck to get it home. Now on to what I need help with, Dad wants to keep using that truck, so till we can get the ignition fixed right I'm looking for a wiring diagram or something that will tell me what wires going to the ignition do what so I can wire something up so he can start it from in the truck and have the…

I have a 1989 4bt which is stuffed into a '74 Plymouth Satellite that could use a few more ponies than what the 0.050 over bored engine, blanketed turbo and charge air cooler are currently giving (probably 15 or so more ponies over the stock 105 HP engine). A guy that I know is recommending that I pull out the stock 4-hole injectors and replace them with 7X10 injectors.Would anyone like to comment on their thoughts concerning this approach? Many thanks,Brian

I am finished beating my head against tthe wall chasing idle haze and high egt's!!!!!! To date I have replaced the lift pump, turbo, Had the injectors cleaned and popped, Had the injector pump gone through tested and reset, and put in a intercooler out of a 95 dodge. I still have high egt's and heavy idle haze and have decided that there are only two possible reasons for my problem. 1: my exaust valves are leaking and causing low combustion pressure/temp at idle and blowing heat made for the cumbustion chamber out the exhaust while driving. Or 2: I have some really cheap crappy aftermarket performance injectors and dont know it. I am leaning toward #1 so I turned the pump…

I've been doing some reading on other Cummins forums, and there are a lot of guys out there who have removed the AFC lever. What is the advantage to doing this? Can I still use the AFC diaphragm and fuel pin after the lever removal? I figured I'd ask before I did anything. Any input is appreciated:)

I have been trying to get my truck to stop hazing grey heavely at idle. I have already had my stock injectors cleaned and popped also pulled the ip and had it gone thru and the timing set. I put the ip back on today and it is still hazing. I did some real close looking at my motor and found it has a 12cm non wastegated housing on it. This could'nt be causing the problem could it???

I've got a '92 Dodge 2wd 1 ton Cummins dually with overloads on it. The rear main leaves have 8 leaves, totalling 2 3/4" thick, the overloads are 5 leaves, thickness of 1.5 inches. I've got a line on some heavy scrap iron, but I'm not sure how much weight I can put in the bed before the springs go flat. All springs are in good shape, still have good arch. Any ideas?

Okay so I need some help with my Dad's 91 D350. In the past year we've replaced: (in no particular order) both front calipers, front soft lines, shoes all around and a new brake booster since the old one went out. The brakes work like they should except for the fact that you just barley press down on the brake pedal and the wheels lockup so I'm not sure whats causing it. Any help/advise is greatly appreciated and I'll do my best to get you any additional info you might want.

I just purchased a 1992 Dodge D350 2WD CTD dually 5-speed truck about 2 weeks ago that needed a passenger side upper control arm and ball joint before I could drive it home. I replaced the upper control arm AND ball joint from an '85 Dodge 3/4 ton 2wd truck....everything fit perfectly. Thank you for your help and shop space Mopar1973Man!! I also have a '91 Dodge 1/2 ton parts rig in the yard that can also donate upper control arms to the 1 ton, ball joints from the 1/2 ton will NOT work. The front flexible brake lines are the same too XD. The only catch on the brake lines is that the hard line side is smaller on the 1/2 ton than on the 1 ton, but the thre…

Today I just finished installing a "new" windshield from a '91 Dodge 2wd 1/2 ton truck into my '92 Dodge 1 ton CTD 2wd. A huge THANK YOU! has to be given to Mopar1973Man for his invaluable assistance in this stressful project . The original windshield was cracked badly, and the '91 windshield was nearly perfect. When installing a windshield, make sure you start from the middle of the bottom of the windshield with twine wrapped inside the channel of the weatherstrip, and don't be stingy with any type of non-petroleum lubricant....it really helps!A 2nd or 3rd helper is invaluable too!
