1st Generation Dodge

This is a discussion forum of the 1988 to 1993 1st Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L 12 Valve Cummins Turbo Diesel power train and driveline system.

Well... I got to admit its not to hard to rebuilt a 1st Gen 2WD front end... I got to adimt its costly but not hard to do. But I got a suggestion to toss out for other 1st Gen owners that have to do ball joints. Heat the A arms (not the ball joint) up with a propane torch a bit. Then take a air hammer and a chisel bit and beat the ball joints out in a counter clockwise direction. Work excellent for me... When you get them out make sure to use a bit of mineral spirits to wipe out the hole this will make it easy for the new joints to screw in using a large pair of channel locks. This happen to be Taz's truck... http://forum.mopar1973man.com/showthread.php/1367-Need-fr…

  2. I'm posting this for Taz... He's looking for front end part for his truck which happens to be a 1992 Dodge cummins - 2WD - 1 Ton. He needs the tierods, center link, and the idler arm. With over 630K miles on the truck I can understand why they are wore out... But let help Taz get his truck running...

errr....those suck....mine went quick...one day 100 miles from home i got the click click. a week goes by and it happened again. both times i cranked(well it never cranked until it fired) for 15mins! then a couple days later...i tried for hours and hours! my dodge is the daily driver and i had a contract to sign(another 130 mile trip). no one i could find around here had contacts. i can tell him a trick to get by without new ones. takes 15-20 minutes my write up is coming soon....(so lazy:punish:)

will the NV4500 bolt up to a 727 bellhousing, once I replace the flex plate with a flywheel?

R #1: The trick that I use was a flat head screw driver and tapped the locknut to the left to loosen it up. Then i took a small peace of clear plastic hose and fit it over the screw to turn the screw up or down. This seemed to work the best for me without pulling everything apart. Good luck, it is frustrating. R #2: I took a 10mm box end wrench and bent the box end portion at 90 degrees to the rest of it and put it on the lock nut with the handle coming out toward the front of the pump. Then clamped a small pair of vise grips on and that allows enough of a turn on it to loosen and tighten the nut. Adjust idle with a small screwdriver. R #3: I took the dermal grinder…

My wait to start light is not functioning, I checked the relays they can be powered up (using engines remote start switch) and fire up the heater grids. Does any one know of any wire colors and functions for the controler, or a website link to schematic's??? Thanks

  13. I've been told 81'-93' doors will fit (I got a 92' w250) but the 81'-86' interior panels do not. Are the mounts still their to swap in my good 92' interior panels or must I jerry rig it?Also told the 81' - 93' beds will all swap but the 3/4 tons have a series of mounting tabs to light the beds up higher. If I acquired a cheap straight 1/2 bed to work with how much work and how many am I looking at to fab lifting tabs that are strong (previous owner used to carry like 4-8ton concrete slabs in the bed). Could I just fab some blocks/hockey pucks up all around, kinda like in those shitty body kits? i have a high powered stick welder on hand and more time then money. Thanks guy…

Have any of you guys tried the Opti-Lube Summer Blend ? It is ranked # 4 in "The Test". I have been using 2-cycle exclusively for many, many, many miles now. :thumbsup [Thanks Mike & Dorkweed] But I got to studying the chart again and it finally dawned on my 'old' mind that the Opti-Lube Summer Blend would actually be cheaper to use and actually showed better results than the 2 cycle. I do realize the two cycle was tested at a 200:1 ratio, while I use a 128:1 ratio. The Opti-Lube at a 3000:1 ratio would be much cheeper than the 2 cycle at a 128:1 ratio.. What do you guys think ? Any down side to using it instead of 2 cycle?? Please…

Here is a question that I hope someone has an answer to. I have a 1993 and this has happened three times now. The altenator stops charging according to the volt meter gauge..... [and yes I have verified that it is not a bad Volt Gauge with a handheld.] The altenator when removed checks out good, nothing wrong with it. I only removed it once and had it checked. So, I just charged the battery when it began to get low....... I was just driving around town at the time anyway. This lasted about two weeks and then it just started charging again. This has happened two more times for a couple of days and then it starts charging normal again. Has not happened in a c…

  18. (Copied From TDG.com) For the 89-93's (Bosch rotary pump)there's a screw behind a tin access cover about the size of a nickel. It takes a 1/2"(13mm) to break the jamb nut loose, then take the screw out. It'll have a metal band welded on it that needs to come off. Once that's off you can run the jamb nut farther out(towards the outside of the pump, about 2 turns). Then put it back in and test, some smoke more than others(especially with Lucas POD injectors!). The pre boost power adjustment is under a cover that looks like a vacuum diaphragm, and it is one. It has a torx bit with a jamb nut. Loosen the torx for more low end & tighten for higher. The governor spring is…
