Purchased my truck with 104,000 mi. Did not appear that the trans or rear axle fluids had ever been changed. Decided to run Royal purple syncromax in the trans.

When changing the fluid i noticed the magnet inside the pto cover had some metal flakes but not overwhelming. Long story short, i ran syncromax for 16000 (6qrts) the truck was always hard to shift, hard to down shift Could only catch a gear or two) and sometime nearly impossible to get in gear if it was at operating temp and I put it in neutral at a long stop light.

Switched fluid out today and the magnet was buried in metal flakes/shavings. Replaced the RP syncromax with 6 qrts of pennzoil syncromesh. Truck is already upshifting way smoother and i'm able to down shift now. drove 15 miles city and stop and go and 18 miles hwy. This is just my experience fwiw.

I have run the penzoil ever since my first change and never had any trouble with it. The only 2 fluids I know that are recommended for the 5600 are the Mopar or the Penzoil. There might be more, I dont know.

On a NV4500 the only long term proven lubes to use are Castrol Syntorq LT(not Syntech or Syntorque) or Amsoil MTG.
Fill to the bottom of the fill hole, no higher, about 5 quarts.

Any other lubes including synthetics are well proven to eat your carbon fiber syncros like acid.
Royal Purple and Redline are a couple that definitely eat syncros.

I thought that stealership oil for nv5600 was fully synthetic, I've been running amsoil sincromesh in my nv56 for few years and about 10k now seems fine, I run 7qt. I did ran panzoil for about 500 ml to flush the old stuff out and between it and amsoil I didn't notice a difference.

NV5600's have a different synchro material, making it not as picky about oil.
