What is the weak part or what is it that commonly breaks on the 98 thru 2002 tip down style dash cup holders? Appreciate any thoughts on what you did to repair it also.

Just buy the center console plastic cup holder from Genos or amazon.   It is amazing and worth it.

Don't want that one CSM, I think it's an awkward reach in that spot. I don't mind the factory one as long as I can keep it working.

Is it the folding support brace or the main hinge pin that breaks?:shrug:

My folding support brace is what broke. I tried all sorts of wires to try to fix it. Lasted for a little wire and then it would break again. Finally used a shoe lace from a boot. Its a redneck fix, but I have a workable cup holder again!:)

Sounds good. I can get creative and use leather hide or something. My first gen has Hides covering the seat. I bought them when you could still afford nice cow hides with the brands showing. Tough stuff.
