Hmmm... I've been 6 years basically without a pre-filter (116K miles) and still running the same filter... I did have a outwears pre-filter but it did last long about 9 months I rubbed holes in it and gave up... So back to filter by itself... Most of my truck life is on dirt roads since the only paved road is US95 highway... But if your looking for a prefilter try over at www.vulcanperformance.com at BHAF for a price of $33

Color doesn't count... What counts is how much vacuum (water column) its creating... Mine is road dirt grey and still not creating any vacuum yet... I just check the old filter minder...

I think mine is pretty crappy since I can put a new filter on after that month and notice night and day turbo whistle

isx, i am using the same one in the pic. i noticed mine went from bleach white to dingy white in 2-3 months, but i'm not using a prefilter. i've had mine 2yrs now. got it at the local oreilly's, but they over charged me. i had it off last night. the turbo inlet and elbow were clean.

They work and keep things clean but it seems like they just get clogged up really fast. Which that might be a sign that they work but mine looks like that after a month and not being able to clean it makes changing them after only a month ridiculous. I need to get one with the prefilter and something I can blow the dust out of when it gets dirty. I really don't care if I have to oil something or what, I just don't want to have to change the filter so often. My turbo lights much quicker when I change it, so much so that I won't be paying attention to how fast the turbo is lighting and will push the pedal the usual amount and have to let off because it lit so quick.. That's how I know it is getting clogged up really fast. The filter minder is a piece of crap in my opinion. You can suck filter minders down if your truck is turned up far enough, and if I never get above 10psi boost, the filter minder might never get sucked down until the filter is completely caked. If you regularly hit 30psi, then eventually your minder will get sucked down when the filter is dirty enough, but running low boost will allow the filter so much leniency, that it will be completely clogged by the time the minder goes down, and if color doesn't matter, how would you ever tell between a clogged filter and one that's not.. Be neat to get a tedious vacuum gauge and see how much my filter compares with a new filter.

Be careful what you ask for... I just got up from my chair and head right out to the shop and shot the pics and came back in and uploaded them to the site... I went out and looked at mine a little closer, and it's already caked with dust. I think this one has only been on it 6 months. Heres some better pics. Mike, yours is a lot cleaner than mine, not sure why, maybe missouri pavement is dirtier than Idaho gravel

Ae you using any kind of oil or oil treatment on the outerwears? If so quit... The thing is if there is any kind of oil on the filter it won't shed the dust... That is how mine stays clean. As I go over the washboard road the vibration shakes the dust right off it... I'll have to get a pic of the dust piles in the heat shield in the summer time... I don't use anything. I take it out of the box and stick it on. I'll stick the air compressor on it and see if anything changes.
