I'm going to have to take an educated guess on this which I would say to prevent axle wrap issues as much.

I would say it's because the axle moves rearward as the springs compress? Might have to do with the geometry so the pinion angle doesn't drastically change as the suspension compresses.

I think both of those responses seem logical. Leverage and angle retention.
Why isn't the axle centered in the leaf spring pack??? It's always forward of center. Thought of this working today.............yeah; I was thinking again!!!!
