So my grid heater ALWAYS comes on when I start the truck. It doesn't matter whether the engine is warm, ambient is warm, etc.

Example today:

78* ambient temp

Engine temp 180

Intake air temp 175

Charging voltage (once moving and grids shut off) 13.6V.

The lower charging tells me the battery temp sensor knows it's warm out, so that's pretty much ruled out. Is the ECM just mad because it can't see a VP??

    Why? Because it might break or the fuel mileage sucks that bad or both? I though you owned a Cummins not a Ford?

It's getting to that mileage where you just don't know what's going to die next. 

wheel bearings

alternator

fan hub bearing

idlers

water pump (I go through a couple of those each year)

sensors / relays

 

Issues it's always had

PS pump

hydro boost / steering gear causing the PS pump to die really fast

 

Lift pump is running WAY above what it was intended for

What I need to buy to finish the fuel system

draw straw or sump

lift pump

all new lines

external regulator

filter setup

So what mileage is that? I know I'm getting ready to cross 300k miles and still driving 3,800 to 4,200 miles a month. So at the longest route across the US at 3,200 miles then means I covering 110% to 130% of the US in one month. From Denver to New Meadows is only 985 miles that what I do in a week now. So one trip to Mom's dialysis is roughly 350-370 miles including traveling Boise for groceries and other stuff. 

 

Oh on my trip to Lewiston to drop @LiDaR at the airport for work. I lost my A/C relay and the compressor quit working. Did I panic? Nope... I stole the relay from the wipers till I get down to Boise to replace it. 

 

Consider I've got a 11 year old AirDog 150 fuel pump. Still not slowing down... So I lost a VP44, so the wheel bearing gave up. Then even a set of injectors. 

 

I'm not worried... I just keep on trucking... :burnout2:

The biggest difference is how far I am from being able to fix it myself. If it craps a wheel bearing 120 miles from home, that's not a big deal. Throw it on the trailer and take it home.

If it craps a wheel bearing 800 miles from home, that's going to be a hefty tow / repair bill. I also have a big problem with letting others work on it. I simply don't trust anyone to work on it.  

If I have the $$ this summer to do a bunch of the preventative things, fuel system, etc. I'll definitely consider it.

215K miles? Really that just getting broke in. :lmao::lmao2:

 

Your engine is brand new as far as I know. Transmission and transfer case is new. So the major stuff is covered. I'd say cover some of the maintenance and drive that to the camp out.

The engine has right about 27K

Transmission about 70K

Transfer case 10K

Rear diff was loose, but after putting in a new seal and tightening the nut it's tight so it should be fine. 

I'm worried about the little things like wheel bearings, and belt driven bearings.

I'm really worried about the fuel system. I'm expecting the lift pump to die at any day now. That'll be 700-800 bucks for a proper lift pump / regulator / filter setup that'll support 800ish hp.
