Posted January 7, 201213 yr oil leak coming from behind plastic cover. I suspect stamped-metal side cover is leaking. Any thoughts? Can i buy gasket at NAPA(cummins part number?) or need to special order from dealer?I thank you in advance for your feedback
January 7, 201213 yr Real pain to get to the front bolt/nut(can't remember which it is) under the vp44:banghead:
January 7, 201213 yr Owner Easier to just remove the VP44 and everything else... I know it not a fun job but you'll be much happier keeping the oil in the crankcase...
January 14, 201213 yr Owner do i need to add sealant to the gasket when i assemble? No... Just pop the seal on and tighten up...
January 15, 201213 yr Yep referred as the tappet cover gasket by napa. Got a gasket and sent it over to the local college for there diesel students to fix. Best part no more leaks and free labor!
January 16, 201213 yr Author okay, so the problem was the gasket after all. toughest part of the change was getting all the way back and removing the disel fuel return "tee" to get that bracket out of the way. thanx all for the feedback.
