Posted February 11, 201213 yr My steering wheel has a squeaking noise coming from inside behind the horn. What could it be? And if I have to pull the wheel, what about the airbag? This is not a small squeak, you can feel it also.
February 11, 201213 yr Owner Most likely the clockspring or upper bearing? As for air bag just unhook both batteries and leave alone for at least 15 mintues before staring work this will allow the air bag system to discharge and make it safe to work on the steering wheel without having to worry about it discharging.
February 11, 201213 yr My 02 did this a couple weeks after a new clockspring install. It was the plastic rubbing together between the rotating center section and the stationary part of the clock spring hsg. Pulled the airbag back and spritzed a bit of lube on the plastic and presto chango no more squeake.:thumbup2:No battery disconnect or anything else needed.
