Before I changed out the motor and tranny there were lots of spots in my driveway so it didn't bother me. But now there are no drips but I still get that burned oily smell once in a while. Being a rooky, is there something I don't know about? I can't see any obvious cause of this odor.

Right on! I only smell it when the truck is sitting still while running and when the vent fan is running. Thanks:thumbup2:

100% normal. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen engines have open crankcase venting. Seeing you have a 2nd gen, do a search here for Mikes vent mod so you don't end up with an oily radiator/intercooler. A hot oil type smell is normal. Some oils "stink" more than others.:smart:

Here is a quick vid of it...

Dang, if I sure don't miss the 24v 2nd gen sound. My '99 was a 3" straight pipe. It was obnoxious loud............but I do miss it.

The 3rd gen quiet is nice also............probably moreso.

Just reminiscing here...............sorry!!!:2cents::thumb1:

I've also noticed that since I've gone to Valvoline Premium Blue Diesel oil, that I have a much more noticeable "oil smell" in my truck vs. the WallyWorld SuperTech that I ran for almost 4 years!!!!
