Does anyone know why my truck doesn't start so smooth as other 12 valves ive seen or heard? I've seen countless videos of 12v's that start instantly and mine takes a little bit. Most of the time I give it a quick nudge in the throttle but I'd like to figure out why it starts different. My uncle has a 92 and it starts instantaneously and it always struck me odd that mine takes a little bit of cranking. Does anyone know the cause of this or am I alone?

I always have to give mine a little bit of throttle too for it to start instantly, and actually its been that way for all 3 of the P-pumped 12 valves that we've had. My dad's 91 VE-pumped truck starts instantly without giving it any throttle like the 92 you talked about. So to sum it all up I think giving the 2nd gen 12 valves a touch of throttle to start is normal. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2

This is my experience as well. My 96 needs a little bump to the throttle and will start after a short grind. My buddy's 92 springs to life without throttle and without any delay. Like you I have been wondering why and recently, and with this thread, I am thinking it is a P-pump feature.

Giving a little throttle is normal P-7100 starting procedure. The '89 to '93 trucks have a rotary VE pump. Two completely different animals. Don't let it keep you up at night!!
