OK I am not a transmission mechanic. I was thinking of putting a TC lock up switch on my 2001 Dodge 47e ? trans to aid in down hill retard. Also thinking about moving an ex brake from my older dodge. Question: If the tc is in lock up, isn't it locked in all gears. Will it lock in 2nd if the speed is kept with in the 2nd gear range? 22 to 35mph? Also heard of hooking switch with a 33ohm, 1/2 watt resistor and leaving the relay in tact for near normal operation except hills. Input would really be appreciated.

I just did the home made version of the lock up switch. Once i throw the switch no matter what gear im in it dumps right to 4th unless i have the od button pushed then it goes to 3rd. And it will not down shift until i flip the switch again. There may be aftermarket set ups that you can buy that are a little better im not sure. Ive also heard the only way to get 2nd to lock up is to replace silonoids in the valve body im going to be looking into that shortly

Mason is correct.I have two switches (because my truck's PCM wiring is hodge-podged)One is for OD, one is for TCC.My trans shifts kinda funny, anyway.. Meaning, that from a stop, an easy take-off, it will shift under 5mph, then almost immediately do the 2-3 shift, if the lever is in D.so I mostly manually shift my auto to control the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. Same goes for the OD shift (toggle). I rarely use the OD in town, but I do use the TCC in 3rd all the time.It will not downshift, but I'll manually pull it into 2nd in decel to a stop, at which time (if the TCC is switched on) it will unlock the TC once I move the lever. If I'm getting onto the interstate from a start, I'll manually go to 1. Manually do the 1-2 shift around 16-1700rpm, then repeat that for the manual 2-3 shift (usually around 30mph). I'll flip on the OD switch around 40-45, then flip on the TCC around 50 or so. Sometimes sooner to keep the trans from doing any 'slippage'. I can tell you that my method keeps my trans temps usually in the 150-160 range (empty) and the 160-175*F range (towing). It was a little cumbersome to do at first, but now, a week in, it's almost 2nd nature..I want an EB, but that's just not in the budget right now.

When my truck had the stock trans in it, I could lockup 3rd and OD but no 2nd gear. With the Georend it will lockup in 2nd, 3rd and OD. I feel the lockup switch mod is well worth while for decending long grades towing or carrying a lot of weight, definately saves the brakes. The resistor is only for stopping Diagnostic trouble codes. The codes don't hurt anything but some don't like having them.

Do you know whats allowing 2nd gear to lock up? Ive got a built trans so im not worried about it bieng able to handle it id like to get it done.
