I got permission from my wife to get an exhaust brake!! I found one place that I can get the exhaust brake and 60# exhaust springs for $818. I already have on board air so I don't need to worry about that to run the brake if it needs it. Where would the best place be to get one?

I'm partial to pacbrake... but I suppose if you can get one at the price your speaking of, might want to get it from there!

 

Since you have an auto, what are you doing about the TC lockup?

Believe it or not, that is a price for a Pacbrake. You had to ask about lock up didn't you........   Well, I am not 100% sure what I am going to do about it, but since I don't have a stock transmission or converter, if I lock out O/D and manually shift the transmission, I get a good bit of engine braking. I am going to experiment with triggering the lock up relay and see what happens. I do know that if I put a lock up switch on by grounding the wire from the PCM it will just throw my tranny into limp.

Hmm, yea. I hear that happens in the older dodges... I was going to suggest the lockup switch, but you already know. I'm sure you also already know that not having the TC locked up and the exhaust brake on is going to create alot of heat in that transmission.

Yea, I need to figure out what to do. That is why I am wondering if I can trigger the trans relay and not get the PCM involved so I don't keep throwing it into limp. Not sure what I can do........yet.

PacBrake has a lockup controller you might check in on it.

Now, consider this. I can't seem to find a kit from them for the auto any less than $1600. That lockup controller must be spendy.

 

I'd be more apt to getting BD diesels torqloc instead.

Exactly. That is why I am going to try to solve this myself. Also, keep in mind that my transmission is an 'early' model and the PCM needs a reflash to make a lock up switch work like most of the drawings say (such as http://www.tstproducts.com/Torque%20Converter%20Lockup%20Switch.pdf). I am probably going to need to get creative with it.......

...so why don't you just do the reflash?

I had a lock up switch wired in already and I did the second gear lock mod and now I'm very happy with how it all works.

Because there is no dealer in my area that I would trust to touch my truck and besides, I am to cheap to pay them!! Every time I tried to ask a question about my truck the look that I got was " You want to do WHAT???" Not to many have the capability to deal with a 1996 PCM.

Ya I don't know. It'd be nice if you could get it reflashed somehow.
