Is there a axle type identifier on the Dana axles? I need to order parts and want to know what I have. Not listed on my original sales invoice.

Front axle is a Dana 60 all across the board on 2nd gens and rear axle is a Dana 70 since you have a 2500 auto. if you had a manual tranny or 3500 you would have a Dana 80 rear. They should have a cast number on the pumpkin with 70 or 80 as well.

There are 2 plates on the pumpkin cover right where the axels come out that have the identification on them. As wild and free said it should be a Dana 60 though

It is rare to still have any tags on them but yeah from the factory they will have tags on the bolts that hold the cover on and or a factory sticker on one tube or another.

Crawl underneath the axle and look up at I believe the driverside where the axle tube comes into the axle housing there will be a reinforcement webbing and it shoild be stamped D70. If not there look at passenger side but I think it is on the driverside.

If you go to the parts dept at your dodge dealer and give them the vin, they can give you a print out of all the options your truck came with from factory, including axle and ratio.

That does not guarantee if was not changed somewhere during the life of the truck but there is alot of detail on the printout.

If the parts guy says he can't do it, he's wrong.  Ask for the parts manager.

I have ratio tags on my differentials. I'll look for other info on the axles.

Wow cool! Downloaded and saved. Dana 60 front, 70 rear as expected.
