  1. Yes, it had 35’s on it and I got rid of them and put stock tires on. That really helped to keep the EGT’s in check with the HY turbo. I am at 2000 rpm at 65 mph.
  2. I recently bought a 28.5’ fifth wheel and have been getting the truck checked out to do some towing this summer. I changed the fluid and filter about 10k miles back and it was really clean. I might just be getting paranoid about the tranny. No indications of problems yet. The biggest load I have pulled is a 18’ trailer loaded with hedge firewood over a couple of passes in Co. Also, any correlation between tranny failure and gearing ratios? I have the 4.10’s so I am in overdrive at a slow highway speed.
  3. What should the stock transmission fluid temp be when cruising? I just got my gauge back from Westach that has had the pointer stuck since I installed it. I have the sensor on the transmission line, not in the pan so I know it will be a bit cooler there. Haven’t gotten around to installing the port in the pan yet. Yesterday it was 45 degrees out and the temps indicated from 100 to 110-not towing anything. She rolled over 114,000 miles and y’all have me thinking my transmission might be getting short in the tooth.
  4. It was listed as new but after I called it turns out to be a Cummins reman.
  5. I just ran across a new HX35W Cummins part for $300. Is that a good deal or not?
  6. One more question and I will shut up. Do you need or is it necessary to but the outer cover for the BHAF?
  7. I don't think I can add a boost elbow to the HY unless I am missing something. I thought the boost elbow was for the HX.??
  8. I bought it about a year and a half ago and didn't get gauges on until last winter but it has acted this way ever since I had a way of measuring the EGT's. I will check the intake-I have not checked that. Pack rats were a pain this year. Thanks for the tip. I did just look at the filter and it was clean as a whistle and I sure don't see it smoking when i get on it. I am too old to rip and romp the truck but don't mind working it when I need to. It has 107 K on it now. I have put about 11K miles on so far and a lot of it pulling a trailer.
  9. I appreciate the help. I either need to stop being in a hurry or spend some money I think I will go ahead with the BHAF, see if that makes any difference, then decide what to do on the turbo.
  10. 20 PSI is about it on boost.
  11. OK, I went out and tried to see how high I could go on the boost pressure and the needle wouldn't go any higher than 20 PSI. This was starting at the bottom of the hill without a load or trailer and giving it all she had. Is 20 PSI considered normal? Appreciate all the answers and comments.
  12. No excessive smoke and most of the time I cannot see any smoke. 15000 gross, not pulling 15,000.
  13. 31" tires and can see high egt temps in 3rd or 4th. I have to drop my speed down to compensate for the temps like I am not working the engine at all.
  14. That is good to know. I get nervous when I get close to 1200. I think I will try one at a time. 1) Boost elbow and BHAF 2) 4" exhaust if that does not help then the HX Turbo Thanks for the help guys.
  15. I do have a Superchip Cortex and run it on 3 of 5. I have also set it back to stock and don't see much difference. I need to pay more attention but think my boost will show close to 30 PSI when in a hard pull.
  16. If I stayed in it I could see 1300 pretty qiuck.
  17. Yes, I keep my air filter changed probably too regular, sometimes every oill change. I have a lot of petal left during the climb and dont see much temp rise in the transmission oil temp when pulling a grade unless I am on a gravel road going slow.
  18. So, leave the injectors as is for now? Any special connectors to adapt the post turbo exhaust? That is one question I have that I cannot find an answer to in my search. I also run 2 cycle. Thanks for the reply.
  19. This may sound like a 1st grader question, but here goes. My 2001 with an HY turbo while pulling in the mountains will make the EGT's climb very qiuckly to the point that I have to back off and downshift to keep them in check. I have the stock exhaust, stock air filter, 47RE, 4.10"s Fass 95, gauges, stock sticks and oversized tires. I have searched this site looking for a remedy for to keep these EGT's in check. What I think I have gleaned is that I could swap the HY to a HX, put a aftermarket larger exhaust (by the way, my exhaust system has what looks like 2 mufflers or a cat and a muffler) maybe a BHAF and bigger injectors to help this situation. I just hate being passed by a Toyota Tundra pulling a camper on some of the grades or passes because I have to back off to keep the EGT in check while pulling a trailer grossing no more than 15K. I would like to know if I have interpreted what others are saying and also if I go to the HX turbo if I need to do anything special to mate up the exhaust system, so any help is appreciated. Thanks
  20. A house cat could hide in the hole in my dash.
  21. Wow, what a difference the new Bilsteins made in the ride. Looked like original shocks with 107,000 miles on them. Only problem will be the shiner on my right eye that I will have in the morning from dropping the 3/4 drive ratchet. Thanks for the help. I do plan to remove the leveling kit when I wear out these big tires.
  22. I have been trying to figure out which shock will work for my truck and am not sure what to order for the front. I have a 2" leveling kit. I see that Rock Auto has 2"lift specified with Rancho's but it notes "dual" shocks. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
  23. It includes the turbo and VP. I thought it sounded fairy cheap. May be more to it than is advertised. I saw it in an add in Garden City KS, just in case anyone wants to investigate. I don't need it, but if anyone is interested just let me know and I will give you the number.
