JOHNFAK, ya im doing all the work my self. i just got all the prices today and they are a piston kit is 85.00, a complete engine gasket kit is 350.00 and sending my head off to get checked and serfaced cost is 250.00. So the total cost in doing it my self is right around 800.00 so i will look up the labor hours next week to see so how many hours it calls to do this. guys i have it a lil easier then most people do when it comes to working on my stuff i worked in a shop when i was in high school and have kept in touch with him so he is letting me use anything that i need to get it done so i will get pics step by step and everything for you all. im hopping to get everything next week and have the truck up and running by the end of the week .
  2. ok guys here is a update on my pig. the head is back from getting checked out all is good on that end so now its time to finish the tear down and that consists of just doing the #5 hole in the truck and get the pig up and running.

Dave3500 yes dave that is what im in the process of doing. engine is staying in and just messing with #5 piston. stock head gasket . yes i would suggestrunning a compression test because it looks like this gasket of mine was leaking just a lil bit at a time and then just went out. im done with after market stuff like that. Dave isyour truck running bad or are you just looking to try and prevent anything from happing?
  4. ill i can tell you is i got the gasket from scheid diesel. sorry not sure the brand. Im just gonna run a factory gasket from now on.
  5. yes i followed the torque sequence and i even had head studs in it. i went with a after market head gasket that was suppose to hold alot more then what i have got done it is kinda like a fire ring head gasket but the head aint got to be grooved it got the rings that set down around each piston and tthey crush when you torque the head. so what i mean by it took a piston with it is that when it blew out the ring that sits around each piston and the gasket got in to the piston and ate the edge of the piston up the walls are fine just gonna run a hone in it and go bout my business. i called the company i got it from and come to find out they dont carry that gasket any more because they had problems with it so what does a guy do?
  6. im not sure if im just gonna put a piston in it or if im gonna in frame or jerk it out and do the works to it it dont have any oil leaks right now or any thing but im not sure what im going to do and im still pricing parts a piston from cummins costs 193.00 and gaskets for the hole motor are around 650.00 to 700.00 so im still looking for some other prices.

  8. hey guys i dont no if you all remember my post bout my 2002 24 valve with the weird miss in it but just thought i would let you all no what was wrong with it. ok so the truck ended up blowing out the head gasket between 5 and 6 and on top of that the aftermarket head gasket i put on the truck not even 11,000 miles ago took number 5 piston out with it so in short the motor gets a over haul at just 154,289. thanks for everybodys help.
  9. hey guys im gonna step in and say i have talked to a lot of sled pulling guys and mechine shop guys that say the 24v head flows alot more then the 12v head and that they have put 24v heads on 12vs and they ran fine but i dont think i would wanna go the other way. thats all just what i have been told never done research bout it so there is some more to chew on.
  10. hey everyone so i talked to the company bout my injection pump today and they are sending me another new one this time. so they say they didnt find anything wrong with the other pump but what i dont understand is that this company is telling me that im having a timming issue and if im understanding what this guy that works there is telling me right its gotta be the pump because the pump is the only thing that contrals timing and just today he told that the pump aint my problem so what do i do now?
  11. ISX ill let you no on that when i hear something on the injection pump. in the mean time i got all the injector lines off so i can pull the cross over tubes pretty easy right now so i will pull them and inspect them good and go from there with them.
  12. hey guys i will try to take as many pictures as i can and ill make sure to put the details in as i go but it will be the begining of the week seems how i gotta work the weekends so as soon as i get to it ill put step by step up on what im doing and ill try not to leave any thing out.
  13. hey guys i have just came up with a spare vp44 and im going to tear it down one day to see what going on in there and i will try to take pictures and everything so every body can see the inside of this monster.
  14. hey guys got an update on this peice of s--t injection pump. so i sent it back last week and they found that the computer on top of the pump was bad replaced with new ran it on there table for 8 hours and sent it back to me said it was good to go, so i got it gack this morning around 10 and went out and put it on got in done and fired it up and found that the truck is doing the same thing as before so called them and let them no what was going on with it and they thought i was lieing to them bout what i had done to the truck because they say it sound like i have a bone stock truck and im trying to run a hot vp 44 and they said that wont work im bout ready to load up and drive out east and mess with these people in person so they want me to send the pump back to them for the second time to see if they can get it fixed. ISX you seem to pretty nowlegeable bout the cummins i live bout 75 miles from you what would it take to get you to come take a look at this pig?
  15. ya they did i think it was some thing like a esb or esp not sure right off hand but i will call them and ask them agin and let you no. Sence this problem came up i have been wanting to find a pump and take it apart so i have recently got my hands one one so i think i might get tho tools out and see what these thing are about on the in side has anyone ever had one apart?
  16. hey guys sorry i havent been on here for awhile but i have a up date on the missing problem. so i ended up pulling the pump off and sending it back to the company they finaly called me back and there was a sensor out on it and i should have it back wensday and hopfully be back up and running later in the day. thanks for every bodys input and suggestions on what i should check.
  17. hey guys thanks for the rest instructions. i am gettin ready to go out and pull the pump off this evening. i talked to the company that i bought it from and they told me to check the key way because it might have got crushed during the installation process or the rotor in side the pumd is out of time so im gonna bit the bullet and pull the dang thing off.
  18. prowelder dan you send me the instuctions on how to re set the apps or can some one send them to me? im gonna call the company i got the pump from and see if they can tell me anything or what not.
  19. moostang, i have used one of them round ones but i think it take to long to get it in there and what not i promise you if you use the long punch you will be set.
  20. are you replacing the vp44 or just needing the gear off? if replacing this is what i have used i just used a long punch. make sure you can get a new nut or got a new one but just screw the nut on bout half way make sure all mounting nuts and bolts are out and give it one good smack and it will pop right out.
  21. Prowelder yes the truck starts right up like it should. so do share some more on what your thinking im tierd of driving this gasser ford.
  22. ok guys here is an update. i have not ran a commpression check yet havent found any where to get the tool, but here is what i have done, i used my fass and pumped a full tank of fuel and additive out and put in new, rechecked fuel pressure, and checked for codes everything still looks the same, this weekend i will be going to pick up a snap on scanner and a temp gun so i can check each cylinder to see if they are close in tempor if one is cooler or warmer. sorry guys my wording might be a lil confusing but i hope you can desifer what im trying to say.
  23. hey guys thanks for the input! here is an update after this weekend, i pulled out my 150 horse that was in it and stuck in a set of 80 horse and the problem is still there. while i got the valve cover off i took a look at the push rods and rocker arms...everything seemed to be working right. New VP 44 put on a month ago, wondering if this might be the problem, but no codes are coming up??? Any other ideas or input...
  24. i have talked to a shop around here that does deals with injection and im gonne pull them out this weekend and take them to him monday to get tested, In the mean time i got another set of 80 hp injectors im gonne slide in to it and see what happens. i read your post on cleaning them and will do that before putting them in. thanks for the in put.
  25. mopar man thanks for your promped replys. the idle pressure is 16 to 17 and the wot is 13 to 14, when this thing done this to me i was thinking of an injector to so i had a 3/4 wrench so i had the truck idling and cracked 1,3,5 injector lines because they were easeier and came up with nothing. is that the same as a pop test or what is it and how do you preform it. sorry for the time between posts i work nights and aint got much time to post but try to as much as i can.
