  1. It was 102 today down at the lake and with the valves still at 6 intake and 30 exhaust, it really showed it's effects. There are lots of hills down there and I usually never see smoke, or didnt with both valves set at the tightest tolerance. Well I just leasurely went up a hill as I always do, giving it a little more to get it up to speed, usually I have a lot more to go before it thinks about smoking. Well I looked back there and the whole road was blacked out. I notice these past couple weeks with it at 30 exhaust and being really hot out the thing has been a dog. It isn't like stock doggy, after all, I do have the AFC and fuel plate removed. But it just doesn't have the kick in the rear it usually does. In the winter with valves tightened all the way up, the thing rips. Right now with the heat and exhaust as loose as possible, the turbo doesn't stand a chance. I think it's a combination of the exhaust and the hot air since not as many molecules are getting into the engine since hot air is bigger. Mileage seems the same (if I leave A/C off) though. Overall I think the valves just change the spoolup. It barely spools up any more, with the exhaust tightened all the way it kicks the turbo to life as if I had an HY on it. Don't get me wrong, both settings get to the same PSI (I think), but the spooling is night and day.
  2. After finding out that I'm not a smoker, I found the perfect place for it. It was even the exact size of it so the little clips on it even worked, no mounting, nothing, just shove it in and snap it in place. Now that I got that kinda accuracy, I can find out exactly how much the speedo is off, actual tire size that it has wore down to, everything.
  3. It's been 100 here for weeks, not a drop of rain. Well there was a drop on the way home, temp dropped to 90, thought I would be home free at 70 or something, then it shot up to 102. Whats bad is I was driving into the storm so the hot front must have kicked the cold front out of the way real quick. The rain just turned to steam on the windshield, didn't even get to turn the wipers on. I am used to the heat though. Less time you spend in the A/C the better. My trucks doesn't work good enough to use either, need to charge it or something when I decide to care. I used it last week and I'm convinced it drops mileage more than the windows down does, I don't care what the aerodynamic scientists say, the mileage was down no doubt.
  4. Saw this post this morning and low and behold I was able to take this on my way back 20 min ago. If I don't see rain I'm coming after you
  5. If you want you can get an air hose and stick it in the rubber line that crosses over the engine (the 8" of it that are rubber anyways) and shoot at least 30psi into it and watch the actuator, it should extend when pressure is on it and retract when pressure is dropped under 20psi.
  6. I would definitely attack that raptor! A fuel plate really doesn't have much that can go wrong and intermittent issues really shouldn't apply there, but something electrical like the raptor...that is a definite thing to check into. If anything, put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see if it drops. I take it you got rid of the stock lift pump? They won't work too good in series.
  7. The wastegate is just a port that allows some of the exhaust gas to bypass the turbine so that the turbo does not overspool. If it doesn't work, the turbo will act fine but it will not be able to regulate boost so you might end up well above 20psi, sounds like you barely make it there. If it is stuck open however, the turbo will have trouble making boost. The actuator is just a diaphragm thing with a spring in it that is overcome at around 20psi, when that happens, it pushes the wastegate open. http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JXCO49H0Vk
  8. I kinda see this in a different light. A good day is seemingly defined as a day when everything you know how to do, goes as planned. Lets say I go to walmart, I just get in the truck, turn the key, drive off, get walmart stuff, go home, thats a good day. Or is it? My mom does this on a daily basis. It's BORING! You get back with groceries and nothing more. So then one day you go to walmart, same as before. Truck won't start. After diagnosing the issue, do you not know more about the truck now? Do you feel more confident about working on it? Sure the day didn't go as planned, but you learned something, you are more confident, and if you fixed it properly you feel more confident in the truck because you know that part is good to go for a long time. Now to put this into perspective...Gassernomore is now faster at taking the tractor apart, more keen at how to fix broken bolts, knows why it broke as well, hopefully, knows how to go at it if it happens again.Mopar1973Man knows maybe it would be smarter to buy TWO belts since they are so far away. Knows how to take the deck off faster, knows possibly why the belt broke and how to prevent it.dripley is starting to narrow down where the leaks could be and will eventually find the common spots for leaks, becoming more aware of the entire system.CSM is becoming more aware of his wife lolDorkweed is testing his limits with people lolAnd I learned some things just by reading this. It was a damn good day! Especially since it was my last day as an electrician
  9. Since my RPM gauge doesn't work right now and I never thought it was worth a crap before (under 1000 theres 2 lines and apparently they aren't 333 and 666, over 3000 theres 4 lines and yeah, PITA). I saw this thing by the people who make the EGT gauge and drooled over it for a while so I finally just got it. It's got more settings than I have sensors, just like the EGT gauge, so it's pretty interesting. Can go 0-999,999RPM and change all the ratios you can do it. I think I can set it to show XXXX.XX so it will be incredibly accurate. I got a proximity sensor with it so I can see RPM anywhere that I want. I didn't realize it was gonna be that big so I gotta do some thinking on how to hide the bulkness. Might do some fancy instrument panel work. Anyhow here it is, might try and install it this weekend.
  10. Alright here you guys go. These are the tappets/lifters. If you scroll way up to the original pics, the one with his thumb in it is where he is holding the lifter up as far as it will go. Obviously based on how they are designed, they will only come out the bottom. Hope this solves all the confusion
  11. I'll try and keep this section active. I get bummed out after waking up at 5 to go to work, then getting back at 5 just to go to bed (try to) at 8 or 9. BUT!, should be over with. I have been thinking of some things to post in here just haven't done it. Back is fine, it's the shoulder I messed up Went riding last weekend so all is well. Going again this weekend.
  12. I got a $250 limit
  13. I thought it would be a lot more than that. Guess I don't know what the people were talking about when I heard $800 a month :stuned:I won't have to drive 70 miles a day which is around $250 a month. I can get health insurance and still have money saved from not driving that much :hyper:Will do Mrtow4u
  14. I'm switching jobs and the place I'm going is brand new ran by a lot of guys I know with really good reputations, but they are in the process of getting health insurance. I am kinda wondering how much it actually is to get my own for the time being, being accident prone and all. I would like to hear some options, prices, etc.. I could probably just call an insurance place but I know everyone here has been through them all and could save me a lot of headache. I know it would be relatively cheap since the place I am with said I was really cheap since I'm only 21, but I have no clue on prices so no clue on what relative prices even are. It would be nice to have some good ER options mainly, and other surgery crap since eh, yeah. I think I am done with the high risk maneuvers I pull but who knows what could happen out there. So any input you guys have is GREATLY appreciated.
  15. I really have nothing against the truck. It drives very nice, shifts very nice, has lots of power. But when you get to the specifics you see it is at 20psi boost the entire time and cannot be worked on by a DIYer. If I was rich, I would have no problem buying one. I wouldn't care if I had to wait for a tow truck if it meant a smooth running truck at all other times. I used to drive an 01' duramax at a place for a while. It was veryyyyyyyy smooth and had the same acceleration unloaded as loaded with 20k lbs, and this was stock. I don't think it could damage itself in the least bit as smooth as it was. It all just comes down to the "if" part. If something breaks, then what. There goes my chance at buying a new dirt bike, a house, anything. The if part on my truck is so small it's barely legible. Gotta love the cummins.
  16. And here I thought you were just speaking chinese :lol:The weird thing is that my ford is as simple as my cummins to work on, though theres no turbo to complicate things.
  17. I was looking at my brothers service truck and thought it would be neat to show you guys the difference. Even I don't know what I would do with a mess like that.
  18. I'll take 4 when they make them for my truck I think they look incredible. I don't know how something going over a curb like that and bending the spokes can automatically straighten, you can look at the other wheel in the same pic and it looks like they are permanently bent. I notice they straighten back out on the test track video so maybe they have a solution. I do love how they look though
  19. The tappets go up and down, following the cams contour of the lobes. When you have to replace the cam, you can't exactly pull it out the front of the engine while the tappets are down because as you pull they will just hit the sides of the next lobe and you will never get it out. So you take a wooden dowel and jam it down into all of the tappets since they all have holes in them, and you pull them all up so that none of them will catch any cam lobes and you can pull the cam right out.
  20. My clutch springs broke into little pieces and eventually it just gave out while I was sitting at a stoplight, it lunged forward since the clutch was now engaged the whole time and it killed the engine. I had to drive the 20 miles home with the clutch engaged the whole time, starting it in 1st and syncing all the gears.
  21. I saw what you posted on the other forum and you were a little more detailed there. The info they are telling you over there is more spot on than what I said here because you made it sound a little different here. But yeah, probably AFC issue..
  22. Set your valves, do a compression test, check your timing. I think those have automatic timing advance things so you might make sure the actuator isn't stuck on. If your timing is already off (in the advanced direction), the timing advance will make it even worse. When mine was advanced a lot it would haze at idle for a long time. EGT's weren't an issue too much but maybe if it is really advanced it would start to become an issue.
  23. If the thing has an air leak it will idle fine when he starts it, then start petering out as the air is purged through the system. Depending on how much air is in it, it might kill the engine if you just let it idle. Sometimes just a little pedal on it for a few seconds bleeds it out, other times the thing has drained all the fuel and needs to be rebled. Mine had no visible leaks or anything, I took the entire fuel system apart and cleaned everything, put it back together, solved, though I have no clue what solved it.
  24. I would take the compressor housing off and power wash it, then use an air hose to dry it and throw it back on. I think it's hard to get a 24V HX35 housing off because of the wastegate though.
  25. Sounds more like the fueling arm is hanging up then getting unhung, especially since it just started happening when they messed with it. I really doubt it's the veggie oil. As long as it's filtered good and the fuel filter isn't clogging up it will burn it fine. You would have to take the AFC housing off, push the fuel shutoff solenoid up then manually pull the throttle back and the fueling arm will come out and hit the plate, you need to make sure it is hitting it and riding up it smoothly. There is a way to adjust it.You might double check all your filters to make sure nothing is clogging.
