Quadzilla V2 Custom Tunes
Hey me78569. Got a favor to ask you. I have a data log of that surging I was talking about. It should be pretty early in the log. I drove around for about 20 min so there is allot there. The favor I ask is the 3 wot pulls I did. I just changed my turbo to a sxe369. Interested to see what each pull looked like. Let me know if you need help finding them. Should be obvious. They are right about in the middle of the whole log. One min while I attach iQuad-2019-04-17-07.39.521061791902337280395.csv

any reason it wouldnt happen when it locks up in 3rd? still low rpm

will do. i might take it out today. if not it may be a few days. supposed to rain all week

ill have to double check rpm. it was just a guess, but it only does it in OD when the converter locks. no other gears and not when its unlocked. i had this same setup without the quad and it never did it, as soon as i got the quad it started

it would be around 1400-1500 rpm. as soon as the tq conv locks up it will start to surge if im at low rpm 50-55 mph. im pretty sure ive seen in this thread that thats contributed to a certain setting on the quad. and it never did it before the quad either

i know its been talked about, but i cant remember where abouts, if at all ITT it was. what is the cause of surging at low rpm in OD? if im 50-55MPH in OD the trucks surges like crazy. above 55 its fine. under 50 the tq converter unlocks and is fine again

i would assume is not small turbos and small injectors

im looking without nitrous, anyone can spray an extra 200hp. but 800 would be impressive. i wonder what the set up is

damn i really wonder what the sovp record is. might give me something to shoot for lol

reason i ask is because ive looked on and off, just looked again now. and i cant find it

what is less than stock? what is the vp hp record?
-
Quadzilla V2 Custom Tunes
isnt that still less than the quad at 30*?

highest timing im seeing there with the smarty on any setting is like 20* correct? looking at the quad logs it seems to be around that 30* area at wot

im just hoping i didnt cause any head or cylinder damage. the head gasket was just done last summer when i put the studs in. I need to get a drive pressure gauge and/or wastegate at 55psi. i know im out the efficiency range at 60-70psi do you have a graph or know what the timing is on say an edge or smarty? before the quad i had a smarty stacked with a tst powermax3 and the quad feels like i added a good amount of power. even my first time i drove it after got it installed (before i had the tuning down) i went WOT and my fiance said "that seemed faster"

i was also doing wide open throttle pulls 50-100mph and making 70psi. im sure the head gasket was to do with the more than likely crazy cylinder pressures i had with pushing that much boost through that little charger. the only thing that bugs me is that timing rattle/pop that was going on. it would only happen at pretty much WOT. a few other times i got on it 50-60% throttle and it took off just fine. I just talked to a guy at PDD. (yes i know alot of people dont like them for some reason, but i do) and he doesnt think the timing should of really "increased" any from the cold air, but he laughed and was surprised i didnt blow my charger with that boost.

im running my own custom tune based off all the researched ive done through this thread and several others. it runs beautifully and is faster than it should be for the numbers its making IMO. i can post up the tune if you would like

https://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-performance-parts-discussion/208665-school-me-vp-timing-please.html here is another decent thread on the timing subject. i guess there are quite a few people who have heard the "vp44's cant produce enough timing to cause damage" theory.

this is #1 diesel. i filled up back in September the ONLY factor that has changed is air temp

at wot of course. the cold air had to of played some kind of part. ive done hundreds of pulls throughout the summer and fall with this setup. my number are always consistent. then i take it out of a very cold day and it timing rattles/pops at wot and makes 10 more psi of boost all of the sudden

im actually at 28* at 3k and 30* max. but yea it pretty much is a race application. only time i drive it is either at the track, street racing, or just to go out and have some fun. the other thing i forgot to mention is that my boost pressures ALWAYS have read 60-63 psi with this set up and after i got back home i looked at my data log and it reached 71 psi. ive never had an issue with timing rattle before this very cold night. wouldnt much colder air be much more dense and have more oxygen, thus increasing timing? in a similar way to nitrous on a smaller scale. thus why you have to run lower timing while running nitrous. http://www.competitiondiesel.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66745

going to revive this thread with a question. last night i took my truck out for one of the last few times before winter. It was a very cold night, about 10*. I havent driven it in weather any colder than like 40-50 degrees out since i got my quad v2. so after i got it warmed up i got on it and i noticed it sounded pretty weird. made a very slight rapid popping sound, kinda sounded like a duramax. After continuing down the road i got to thinking that maybe the 30* of timing at 3k rpm and the extra cold air was pushing timing/boost/drive pressure too high and i was getting timing rattle. I got on it one more time just to see if it did it again, which it did. still drove 100% normal the rest of the way home. I pulled in the garage and looked under the truck and i had oil dripping in the front of the truck. I thought maybe i blew out the front main seal or some kind of seal/gasket. The entire front suspension was COVERED in oil. i tracked the oil to the front of the motor where the head and block meet. I have soot chunks in my coolant. im thinking head gasket. MY QUESTION IS: i thought i read in this thread that the vp44 couldnt even produce enough timing to really cause problems, so setting at max timing at max rpm was fine with studs.
