About an hour drive, it’s a 2001. I have no idea what temp Thermo it is. I know I hve never seen it go over 190 unless I’m going up something steep with my horse trailer. Even then just barely. Maybe 195

Okay thanks, I just wasn’t sure if that was an okay temp to be running frequently.

So recently I’ve been noticing when i leave in the mornings for work after letting my truck warm up, my coolant temp is never past 165. No matter how long I let it warm up. I Was hauling my horse trailer this morning it was 34° And the coolant temp never reached 190. Maybe touched it once on an uphill but otherwise no. Is this a problem? Stuck thermostat?

I’ll try to get a better video of it today, only problem is in the videos you usually hear the sound of the engine over the whistle but In person the whistle is much louder

Noise has stopped! So the noise stopped a couple days ago and has no returned! I have no idea why either? Heres what happened....P.S. I’m not proud of what I did... so I was driving to get onto the interstate. As I was pulling on this other 3rd gen pulls into the right light blocking me in right at the end of the on ramp. i gave it full throttle and whipped into the left lane, was doing about 55 when I floored it and 85-90 when I let off. Anyways. I stopped at a gas station down the road later and noticed no more noise! The noise has been getting worse everyday no matter how much I babied it. Until I decide to bear her up a little and the noise goes away. Hasn’t been back. Any ideas?

Fluid looks black in reservoir but is clear on my finger. Has not been changed in over 100,000 miles. Thanks for the help and the article

So does that mean all the brakes are sticking a little but the one? Or all are working correctly except the one that’s cold? I also noticed what looks like fluid all over the tire, brake fluid I’m guessing? Even tho reservoir is full? Sorry im pretty new to working on these and I’m just trying to figure things out

I just got done driving about 20 miles, felt all the rotors and drums to feel for overheating, and noticed every drum and rotor is hot except the rear driver side. It’s cold to the touch

So the noise could be caused by that crack? Because i only hear it when boost is generated. And yes that was from me checking to see if it spun freely. It has no movement besides normal movement.

I have not been able to make it make the noise while in Neutral. Only while in drive. it seems to not make the noise while coasting

Could this make that noise?

Ive tried finding one but couldn’t, definitely a possibility that I missed it tho....Thats what I’m starting to think because I have no power or shifting issues

All wheel bearings seemed fine. I already removed the front driveshaft to eliminate that and check all the dust covers. Nothing. I’ll go to a hill today, try it with transfer case and tranny in neutral and let you guys know what happens Its been leaking quit I bit lately. If I park a little uphill it leaks a lot. A little down hill it doesn't at all. But I do check it every couple days and keep it topped off

Trans was overhauled about 80,000 miles ago

317,000 miles...I’m replacing it in the morning so I guess I’ll see what happens then. So the noise most likely is not from the carrier bearing? What about where the driveshaft connects to the transfer case? Or overdrive housing...I noticed a little transmission fluid leaking and dripping off the seal right there.

So I noticed something else, when I do put it in neutral while coasting, the sound is no longer rpm related. It’s the weirdest sound. It changes so much sometimes it literally sounds like a harmonica! Im out of state at the moment and don’t know anyone with a truck or I’d give it a shot! I tried to find any boost leaks but could not. THANKS! So I think I’m getting closer! I was going about 15, put it in neutral and shut the truck off, noise was still there...what’s that tell me? Not my video or truck but is almost exactly the same amount of play. Maybe a little less.

Yes there is still noise while in neutral, but only while coasting over 10 mph or so. Miya definitely rpm related. But I can’t tell if it makes the noise when rpm goes up...or when the boost starts building. I will do that tonight. If it only makes noise while under load will that tell me anything? I feel like I’m all over the place trying to figure this out. So the carrier bearing. That’s the one in between the overdrive housing and rear diff? In the middle of the drive shaft? Would that make that type of noise? I’m not sure if that’s what I’m looking at or what it’s for, but when I grab the rear driveshaft it’s tight if I try to spin left or right, but up or down it seems pretty wobbly. Is that normal?

Noise is not there in neutral, while coasting under like 10 or so. When I put it into neutral while going like 45 it will go away for a second or two then come back. I also got it warm so it was screaming at me, then took of the belt and drove around the block. Still made the noise so I know it’s not any pulleys. Sound keeps getting worse everyday and i need my truck for work! Hopefully I can figure this out soon....

Thats the fluid that came out, that’s not normal right? Too dark?

What about if the transmission was making the noise, would it be engine or tire rpm that Would be changing the sound? Actually I just drove to the auto parts store . While it’s squealing, if I let off throttle noise stops. Also it seems to make the noise a lot less when temps are under about 40°

I actually did that awhile back, front was over a quart low. Rear was full but looks like muddy water. Would that cause a noise that seems to change with rpm?

I had my buddy drive while I stood on the bed. I think I can hear it coming from between the cab and bed.

Even tho it only makes the sound while moving?
