So, I wrecked my truck and decided to replace the engine due to the 53 block being cracked. Problem has been finding anything other than a 53. So, I'm back to the idea of repairing the block. I will not be hotrodding this truck. In fact, I've only put about 3k miles on it since buying it in January 2011 (tow vehicle only). I also know that I should replace the block. I'm looking for no kidding factual information from experienced folks who have either succeeded or failed at repairs, whether it be by welding or Lock N Stitch. Thanks

Well anyways, my 53 block has been cracked for a couple of years now and growing steadily.Iv'e been shopping around and here is what I think I will do. my truck has 140,000 miles on itso I think the best route to take is to get a new block and have all my stuff put on it.The mech said they will do the head and do anything needed while it is in the shop. I just wanna do it once and do it right. Looking at right at 8 grand does this sound like a good number ?? I do not want to put a junkyard engine in my baby.Luke

I recieved a postcard regarding a settled class action on the 53 block, documentation is required to claim a max $500(i know not much) but the crack would have to occured after the 5/100 warranty and before 250k:spend:,but i believe that is you have a 53 block you will recieve one.

So picked up the engine for my truck today. Im not really sure what I ended up with. I cant find a 53 anywhere so I hope that is a good sign. The block in my truck has a big 53 on the drivers side lower front of the block. This block has a series of numbers. The tag says it was built 3/3/98 and is rated at 235hp. My tag says 215hp. This engine must have had a manual behind it? My plan is to swap most of the parts from my engine to this engine so I hope I dont have any problems. --- Update to the previous post... Oops. I put this in the wrong section. This is meant for the 24valve section. Sorry.
