NV4500 Fluid Change

Need to change the tranny fluid. Looked already but couldn't find detailed instructions. I am sure many of you have done this many times. Sounds like many of you fill from the top? Drain from a PTO bolt? How many quarts? What type of fluid? Any info would be great. Thanks guys.

Holds 1 gallon of 75w-85 GL-4 fluid. Being it's no longer manufactured I'm using 50 SAE transmission fluid GL-4. 12k miles no issues.

Holds 4.25 quarts to be exact.  What fluid you choose to be used is at your own.....  Some claim and/or have had good luck with other brands and types but do your homework on whats been tried, or find a dealer who will sell you what OEM fluid you need at a reasonable price.  My opinion is, if you change fluid every decade or so then who cares about saving a few bucks.

Mike, how is that 50 SAE shifting when cold?  That's one of my concerns with running it compared to the thinner stock fluid.

I am also running the 50 SAE oil. Running cold vs hot I cant really tell a difference in shifts.

I check my fluid after 10k miles and still clean as it comes out of the jug. Still over filled. Working very well and no issues. Carbon fiber syncros and not wearing or leaving any carbon in the oil as of yet. Going to check again at 20k miles.

The OEM fluid is a thicker 75w-85w.

No problems really. It got a few weird idiosyncrasy yet but other than that shifting good. The syncros are tight in the 1st and 2nd slot so I've ben hitting 3rd then popping back to 1st or 2nd as needed. This is only while stopped. I've also had Abe at Weller Truck look it over and he's not worried about it. Just tight yet. Like I said the fluid is still clean and clear no carbon color yet. As the miles stack up it doing better and better like 5th use to be the same way but very rare to hang up any more.

Not really.. Compare 75w-85 to 50 SAE.
