ABS and airbag delete

Recommended Posts

I recently acquired a 94 2500 regular cab 4x4. I've been going through it fixing some of the less than stellar modifications that the PO had done. Since the ABS pump/control module and airbag sensors are already gone, will there be any electrical/mechanical/legal issues if I remove the computer modules for these systems and delete the associated wiring from the harness? I will be the only person driving this truck and have never had a vehicle with ABS or airbags, so I'm comfortable without them. While the truck will be my daily driver/work truck (heavy equipment mechanic/operator) it is also being built up for serious 4-wheeling and overlanding.

Is that a stick or auto, personally I would think if it was a stick you could eliminate whatever you wanted, only need one power wire to control fuel solenoid.

That's why all the 12 valves are popular to put in in whatever vehicle. But then again I could be wrong, but I know I've seen several of them in Chevys and Fords going off-roading.

So, the airbag module and abs module are both gone. No problems at all. Guages all work, heater grid works, so all is good. Apparently on my truck the abs and airbag are completely different systems and dont affect anything else. Even the cruise control works. Gotta love a 12 valve manual transmission truck!

I don't know how?

ABS module is what sends the speedometer and odometer signals.

ABS module is what tells the grid heater to turn off after 20 MPH.

ABS module is what tells the PCM speeds for the automatic transmission and cruise control.

I know some of this for sure because of the fact when I sent my ABS module in to be rebuilt these are things that failed to function.

What year is your truck? Mine is a 94, 12 valve, with a manual transmission. When I traced the wiring on mine, it seems that the abs and airbag computers are pretty passive and do not really interact with anything else on the truck. My heater grid is on it's own circuit, same with speedo and cruise control.
