Wiring/Starting Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi, I bought this truck about 3 months ago. It came with no keys (no its not stolen, guess buddy lost them) so he put in a master switch and a push button.

Master switch turns truck on, push button starts the truck. A few weeks back I took out my remote start because it was in my way and I didn't have the use for It with the lack of keys anyway. Nothing changed with the truck I still used the switch and button just fine.

3 days ago, I was frustrated with the wires from the remote start hanging out so when I got home I took only the wires that were connected to nothing out. Now my truck won't turn over and I've pulled out the wiring harness on the push button and the wires on the master switch and I don't know what wires I need to get it to start again.

I can get the lights on the dash and in the truck to turn on, I can hear the fuel pump and lift pump (not sure if they're the same) kick in and there's fuel going into the housing but when I try not wiring it a few different ways like shown on YouTube with the same model of truck, it makes the noise to start but won't actually turn over. I've also noticed my oil pressure gage doesn't go past zero.

Can anybody help me out here? Maybe someone also has a switch and push button.. Or maybe someone can send me a picture of their wiring harness that's connected to the steering column and underneath? I've been trying for three days to figure this out and nothing's worked.

It sounds like your master switch is working. The push button starter switch should just be a simple 2 pole switch. Power in and power out. Make sure it has power in, when the master is turned on and the out pole, wired to the starter solenoid.

Welcome Kay. Is your starter just clicking when you push the button? Could be the starter contacts have gone bad.

You also mention 0 oil pressure reading. Most likey the pressure switch has gone bad. Does your check gauges light come on? Have you checked for any trouble codes?

Still haven't gotten this figured out!

Got the oil pressure to come up by unplugging??? The oil pressure sensor. The truck starts but now the engine temp isn't coming up and my tach isn't working at all. The truck idles for a few minutes, you can hear it revving higher and higher and then sounds like all on its own it revs the pedal and idles down.

Trouble codes are P0113 P0123 P0238 P0380 P0106 P0235
