1997 Cummins electrical issue causing relays to tick

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I’m having an issue with my 1997 dodge 2500 4x4 Cummins. Issue started after I let the truck sit over winter months. The issue is when I turn the key to the on position my ASD relay along with the trans relay in the PDC tick very fast and loud. The ticking is accompanied by all my dash lights flickering to the same speed the relays are ticking. The truck starts and shuts down with the key, just won’t go into drive or reverse. Everything worked great when parked. Thanks in advance for any info\advice. Also this is my first post so not sure if I put it in the correct place. Be nice and steer me in the right direction if I posted incorrectly!

I don't have a diagram for a '97' but in a '99' those relays and the transmission are controlled by the Powertrain Control Module.  Check the ground wires for the Powertrain Control Module.  They are black with tan stripe at the C connector pins number 31 and 32.  They ground at the right side battery.  They go through a splice and a connector before grounding at the battery.
