Finally decided to add cupholders! We shall see.

I finally decided to buy a center console extension to add cupholders to my truck. I've been looking at them for a while but couldn't stomach the $50 price tag. Recently the price has been dropping. I picked this up for $22 from Amazon. I haven't installed it yet. I am concerned about clearance while shifting. (5 speed).

I'll get pics once installed and report back if there are issues or not.

 Annnndddd......done.

Not bad, it didn't snap in like I hoped but for $20 I'm not complaining.  Had to put a few screws in it to hold it tight and adjust the striker for the lid closure.  All in all I like it.

After moving through the shift pattern I believe there could be a little interference between the shifter and a soda bottle if it's in the slot closer to the driver.  I'll know next time I drive the truck. Still, for the added convenience, especially on a longer drive where shifting isn't so frequent I think it was worth it.

This is where I put the screws as to not interfere with the lid closing.

Well @Tractormanyour in luck. I had to run to the store for smokes so I got to drive it. I even purchased a bottle of root beer to place in it to check for interference.  AND....I even took some pics for you.

So far the only thing i really noticed is that my right thigh will reast against the extended cupholder. Not a big deal, i can get used to that.  Other than that little thing i like it. I do have to say though, if you try to place tour cell phone in the little slot closest to you, that dont work. The phone gets in the way.

 anyway, heres some pics.

I don't know why the 1st pic flipped upside down. As you can see it really does not get in the way of shifting a manual trans. Possibly if I had my 32oz coffee cup but we shall see. For the $22 spent, it is well worth it so far.

I've been thinking about one for a while. They were priced close to $50 for a long time. I didn't feel this piece of plastic was worth that much. Here lately they have been coming down quite a bit, when I saw it for $21 and change I figured I'd give it a try.

  • 2 weeks later...

@Doubletrouble, I received and  installed my cup holder.  It works well with my 6 spd.  I think the truck has just a little more power now, too.

At this point, I didn't use any hardware to fasten the cup holder.  I did notice that the console lid doesn't latch anymore with the added material of the cup holder.  Did you have the same issue?
