Hi.Just put a new APPS in my Dodge Ram 2003 HO. Its NOT a timbo (I am from Ontario Canada) but one that is meant to go on the truck. My voltage was set from factory at 4.97 volts DC on the blue wire which I thought was the one. Thinking now outload obviously that is NOT the idle voltage..haha. I did NOT change the voltage yet (and NO there is NO voltage stamp or tag on back). The guy I got it from said to change the voltage to .55 for idle. My question is this. I started truck and reved it up and it idles good, and revs good. Can I just leave it and drive it around and if it stays ok, leave it?

Don't the APPS auto-magically calibrate themselves every time the truck is started on 3rd gens???I replaced mine on my '04.5 a couple years ago, and did nothing to it...........but the APPS on mine is under the drivers side battery tray...............yours is in the bell shaped housing in front of the intake horn.

haha thanks for.....nothing I guess..haha Anyone else have a real answer? I am going to take it for a test drive, then calibrate it and see what the difference is.

Don't the APPS auto-magically calibrate themselves every time the truck is started on 3rd gens??? I replaced mine on my '04.5 a couple years ago, and did nothing to it...........but the APPS on mine is under the drivers side battery tray...............yours is in the bell shaped housing in front of the intake horn.

Lower is better. If you go too high the IVS (Idle validation switch) will be toggled and the ECM will go from idle to throttling mode. Thanks Mopar. I am going to pull the batteries for 30 mins and do a retrain of the pedal. I am going to leave the voltage as is to do the old "if its not broke dont fix it" haha

I spoke to the local Cummins mechanic (who also has 3 cummins pull trucks and does all the local cummins mods here). He said if it is working without a voltage change on the apps, LEAVE IT AS SUCH!! As long as the tranny is shifting properly.

Hahahahahaha!!!! I can take it. But my post was in all honesty. The APPS in the bell shaped housing in front of the intake horn can and often do require adjustment.

Haven't found anything yet that says the "under battery tray APPS" or the "in cab under throttle APPS" require adjustment. My research says they calibrate upon each start up. So I am correct. I think!!??

Do a search................anytime "automatic" should be used, I use "automagic"!!!!:moon::2cents:

The only thing I do is verify the voltage is below the tag voltage and its fine. If its above the tag voltage then I would suggest turning it down. The only reason is the IVS switch will be stuck in throttling mode and exhaust brake don't work unless it see ground on the idle pin of the IVS.

I thought the under battery one was the same as the intake horn one, just a different location based on trans?? All I know for sure is that the APPS is gone by 05, and all I have is a TPS located in the pedal itself.

My truck has an APPS, and it's under the drivers side battery tray. I've replaced it once and didn't do any calibration at all on it. In the manual that I have, it's also called an APPS............under the battery tray. I was under the impression that the "under the pedal" APPS was the same as the "under battery APPS..........but I guess not. My truck is an '04.5...............there must've been a "change over" period in there somewhere. No calibration regards.

I would have uploaded a pic of the 04, but the FSM isn't as clear with photo's.

Reading the description the battery tray one works the same as the 05+, just actuated by a cable.

That is correct. There is a cable, a plug and 3 mounting screws IIRC. Didn't see any way to adjust it when I replaced it.
